Apologies for the flagrant misuse of the Strictly forum, but I have to post this somewhere...

My youngest daughter has been dancing for several years now and has recently got into doing competitions. Last weekend, the sequins, hairspray and makeup were out in force as she undertook a heavy programme of competition at the local dance festival. When the dust settled, she emerged with a first place for one of the group dances and a second and third in two of the individual categories.

I've got no idea how the competition ranks in the world of dancing, but the Great and the Good at the dance school were very pleased, as of course were the Proud Parents.

I can only conclude that our old milkman had some fancy footwork, as there's absolutely no dancing ability from my side of the family!

The only downside is that she now needs an enhanced wardrobe and shoe collection for future competitions...

Yes Congratulations from me too.

Spin turn is right its going to be expensive (how are you with a needle? ) and if she is competitive and good you can kiss goodbye to your weekends for ooooooh about the next 2 decades. But worth it I am sure.

Good luck to her and you.

Mother-In-Law is a dab-hand at things involving a needle and thread. I've kept her occupied for years with repairs to my cycling kit, but she has kicked me into touch to focus on her new "wardrobe" duties! (And I would have to say that the Old Girl is in Seventh Heaven at her new role!)

Weekends are a distant memory already - Elder daughter is a competitive swimmer and some Saturdays I get the smell of chlorine and the twinkling of sequins before lunchtime!

Thanks to everyone for the kind words.

I'm quite good with a needle myself (well great at starting projects not so good at finishing them!) Given the choice of cyclists lycra, chlorine and sequins I would plump for sequins every time. I think every needle woman secretly craves to make sparkly swirly dresses!
