So Missy is the master I wondered if anyone had any ideas on who Seb is and if he has an important character

It Missy is the Master than Seb must be the Rani.

Someone on this forum posted a really interesting interpretation, that Seb is another name for Geb, the Egyptian God of the Earth, part of whose role is as follows:

Quote:
“Geb could also be regarded as personified fertile earth and barren desert, the latter containing the dead or setting them free from their tombs, metaphorically described as "Geb opening his jaws", or imprisoning those there not worthy to go to the fertile North-Eastern heavenly Field of Reeds”

Now I'm not sure that Steven Moffat would want to go down that route, necessarily, but even if he's a human that Missy selected for the task, it's an awesome coincidence that his name relates to such a mythological figure.

I reckon he might be an overly straight forward character and Moffat planned that Seb name to so people would theorise about mythology.

Probably a Computer interface with Seb being an anagram or the Mistress companion.

I think he's just Missy's companion; the new Lucy Saxon, as it were.

Seb is just Seb. I don't think he's a major plot device, just a secondary character. Unless of course he turns out to be Sally Sparrow reincarnated.

Like his brother Gus he's an Artificial Intelligence.

Well, they have gone to a lot of trouble this series to make references to gods and goddesses. Seb's name is either a stunning coincidence or is a reference to his god namesakes role in judging the dead...'those whose hearts are filled with guilt' being denied entry to heaven and are entombed in earth. Does this mean he is literally an Egyptian God? Very probably no.

Then we have the Missy brooch. I have found at least five examples on the internet of the same profile on that cameo that are all identified as Chloris. However, it could easily supposed to be Persephone...both of them fit with Missy, but Persephone is obviously more appropriate. Seb wears a small badge on his lapel. It too has a profile portrait in the Greco-Roman style, of who or what I can't make out...

What about Courtney? Exactly what was the point of her story? Unless she pops up in Death in Heaven, the only reason seems to have been to get her to The Moon so that she could be there when the decision had to be made. And she needed to be there so that we had the Maiden, Mother and Crone, ancient triple moon goddesses, all deciding the fate of humanity. Another stunning coincidence, or an underlying theme of the series? Was there more to Moffat moving that story from series 7 to 8?

Then we have Clara, the women with two aspects to her life. The life of physical, human love...and her spiritual 'affair' with a 'god'...

It's all very interesting to those that like idle distractions. Does or can it in anyway inform us about what has really been going on this series? I very much doubt it. The Doctor himself this series has scorned our silly superstitions and beliefs more than once. My best guess is that we will have a line at the end of the series about Myths and Legends echoing through time, or repeating themselves. It's happened before in a T.V. programme...

I can't help thnking Seb is another aspect of the Master/Mistress, i.e. another incarnation. We've seen it before with K'ampo Rimpoche and Cho Je in Planet Of The Spiders. Of course I could be talking complete rubbish.

An annoying 2nd rate stand-up comedian playing a pantomime character with all the charm and subtlety of a lump hammer?

I didn't think Jeremy Clarkson was in Doctor Who this year! At least the Argentinians and myself have got something in common...

I can't have been the first person to plug the name into Wikipedia, but I don't recall reading this yet...
Quote:
“Sebastos was the Greek translation of the title Augustus, which was used for Roman emperors.”

Two artificial intelligences, one called Seb, and one called Gus?

And his lapel badge looks very like a Roman coin...

Which is a perfectly credible authorial methodology

Nice post. This is the kind of thing I read the forum for, wading through all the self-important fan nonsense.

Just to put it out there as a theory, Seb's apparent non fear of Missy makes me think that he could be the actual Master!

If that is so, and I wouldn't put it past Moffat to do something like that, then who is Missy?

Double bluff on the Droid explanation?

Bit of a twist on the Doctor/Tesalecta situation, kill the Droid while the real Master escapes?

Anyway, I'm sure it isn't!

Hmm as much as I want Moffat to go with the mistress as I think gomez is great in the role, with the swearing on the psychic paper during the 'government' visit to doctor Chang I can see the doctor vs the master ending up being malcom v ollie.

However... Dr scarosa assuming he started the idea of improving humans say by removing fear reminds me of a certain kaled I think seb could Davros plucked from his body after the accident that left him how we see him and is being manipulated by the mistress & the scarosa cyberman is a double bluff to make Chang n the others believe there really was a scarosa
