I wanted to share with you some information that has yet to be made public (and most likely won't be) regarding LTE Subscriber numbers. All data in this report is from various research companies and is correct as of 30th September 2014.

GLOBAL LTE MARKET

There are now 331 operators worldwide who have launched commercial LTE services. This number is expected to increase to 350 by the end of CY2014. There is a total of 2,220 LTE compatible devices including smartphones, modems, tablets etc… Of that number, 1,050 are LTE smartphones Many operators are bringing HD voice service to their LTE customers by introducing VoLTE, technology. Availability of VoLTE-enabled terminals is rapidly expanding. 146 VoLTE-capable phones (including carrier and frequency variants) have been announced by leading vendors including Apple, Asus, Fujitsu, Huawei, LG, Pantech, Samsung, Sharp and Sony Mobile.

Global 4G LTE subscribers worldwide have now exceeded 330 million users in Q3 2014. This number is expected to grow to over 380 million by the end of the year which will be a 90% increase from 200 million subscribers at the start of the year.

Here are some highlights-

NORTH AMERICA
- North America holds the highest share of 4G users with over 140 million. This is forecast to rise to over 150 million before the end of the year.

-Verizon is the worlds largest 4G network in terms of subscribers with over 60 million as of Q3 2014. AT&T follows with over 50 million. Sprint, T-Mobile, other local carriers and Canadian carriers make up the rest.

APAC
-The APAC market see's the most potential growth and is currently the fastest growing region by far. APAC started off with under 80 million users at the start of the year and now has over 130 million users as of Q3 2014. It's forecast that APAC will have over 150 million users by the end of the year and will take over North America during Q1 2015.

- Japan is currently the largest country in terms of 4G LTE Subscribers with over 50 million. NTT Docomo holds over 50% market share with 26 million subscribers.

- China follows closely with over 40 million subscribers and will easily overtake Japan in Q4 2014. China is forecast to have the worlds largest 4G market soon enough and has already demonstrated its dominance by rolling out over 500,000 4G base stations.

- South Korea has grown to over 34 million subscribers and is one of a small amount of countries to have VoLTE, 100% coverage and LTE-A. SK Telecom holds 16 million customers, KT has has 10 million and LG U+ has 8 million.

-Singapore has seen immense growth in it's 4G market. It was at one point the fastest growing country for 4G LTE subscribers.

EMEA

-EMEA has over 100 commercial LTE networks in almost 50 countries. This is more than any other region yet EMEA still has a very low number of subscribers. This is to be expected as populations are low and uptake of 4G is slow due to pricing.
