You often find that celebrities who have suffered from an accident to themselves, or a close family members, can get very committed to trying to prevent it happening to others. Loreena McKennitt lost her fiance in a boating accident and has devoted a lot of her time to water safety.

You know Terry likes to have all the many threads he starts, however old, to be on page 1.

Has there been any more news on Matilda's progress? Without wishing to pry, I do hope she's a lot better.

Claudia will be on Watchdog tonight talking about Matilda's accident and the campaign to have dress up costumes declassified as toys and reclassified as clothing for safety standard purposes.

Showed a clip of,the interview on BBC breakfast and I defy anyone to watch and not fill up. Sounds an absolutely hofrrific event and hope that Matilda is recovering.

It was heartbreaking. It must be hard to re-live it, but think Claudia will help raise awareness with her interview. Chilling when she said "She just went up" and the flames kept coming back. Like one of those birthday candles impossible to extinguish. Apart from the horrific incident itself, I don't think I properly appreciated, just how many surgeries and grafts etc. a child has to go through, as of course their body grows and the skin stretches which the fire officer was explaining.

Harrowing to hear some details of how difficult it was to stop the fire.

When they tested the dresses, that was how fast they burn if the child is motionless. It would burn much faster because they would be moving.

I hope they get the law changed.

Poor Matilda and poor Claudia. A very emotional interview to watch. You could see how hard that was for Claudia but shes doing a really great thing by highlighting the dangers. I'm genuinely gobsmacked that these costumes are not fire retardant and i can't believe we don't have dozens of kids going up in flames every year.

I hope this leads to a change in the law - it appears long overdue!!!

I agree with the comments here that it was so sad and frightening to hear the details of what happened to Claudia's daughter. It must have been so painful to recall the details of the traumatic accident, but as said, Claudia is doing the right thing in raising awareness and hopefully this will lead to a change in the law.

I really hope that Matilda is able to recover from this.

Just a quick thought, brought about by discussing this with my Dad; I was saying how bad I felt for Matilda, in this image-driven society, and that she might struggle to feel attractive with her burns (even if she is, self-image is a tricky thing), and my Dad replied without missing a beat "Amanda Redman managed it quite well, in my opinion."

Just nice to know there are some positive burns victims role models should Matilda need them.

Amanda has her arms on show where often, and I never really notice them, as she's an attractive lady.

I mentioned this programme to the manager if my local supermarket and that I thought they should take the current costumes off sale. His reply was "Well it's only a few children each year that this happens to." I said "One's too many."

Think I'll be changing supermarkets.

Don't know if this has been posted anywhere else?
Petition to declassify children's costumes from toys to clothes.

I signed it. Over 26,000 signatures so far.

I see the supermarkets have said they have no plans to withdraw these clothes from sale because they conform to current legislation. Apparently they only need to have a label saying that they are flammable or that they should be kept away from fire. Current legislation isn't good enough.

According to on-line Mirror, Tesco say they comply with current legislation. Well that's OK then isn't it? No it's not.

Sainsburys say they take customer safety seriously, but won't be withdrawing them because they comply with current legislation. IMO not taking it seriously enough.

Asda say they are introducing their own additional tests, which is something but won't necessarily be an improvement because presumably the tests won't have EU backing

Morrisons refused to comment.

The Chief Fire Officer wants supermarkets to apply the same standards to these dresses as they do to children's pyjamas and nightdresses. Which is what they definitely should do.

Thankfully it seems like the supermarkets & other suppliers are now addressing this issue.....
