Could the Christmas special follow on from this week's finale? Is that why we've heard nothing about it? Is the Christmas Special about The Master? Perhaps (one can hope) we'll get a peak with a brief trailer at the end of this weeks episode?

It's filmed so they could do it

They could go one better than a trailer - there's something on Children in Need next Friday (14/11). Could be an exclusive 3/4 min adventure or possibly a preview of the special.

From the trailer I saw an hour or so ago, it'll be on between 19:30 and 20:00.

They should do one it's close to Christmas

There isn't a trailer attached to the online preview, but that's not to say we won't get one when it's broadcast on Saturday.

Hopefully the reason for no trailer is because the current Doctor regenerates and Clara and her boring boyfriend get married and exit the show in Steven Moffat's final episode.

That would be the best Christmas present ever!

I'd be quite suprised if there wasn't something. IMO there will be a glimpse and/or title.

Still, was fairly confidently predicting that 'Missy' wasn't the Master last week. Whoops.

Like I said, could be for a one-off piece, or could be a Christmas preview.

I think the short answer is "Yes". There will be a Christmas trailer on Saturday.

Wasn't there a rumour that Louis Spence was going to appear in it?

This is what I expect, too - the Christmas Special "reveal" at CiN is too traditional now (last year excepted, for obvious reasons)

Plus, it would be nice to get a brief breather to let S8 sink in before we start the Christmas hype train (even if it's less than a week, haha)

I do suspect we won't get more than a closing title card that says something like "DW will be back on Christmas Day", possibly with the episode title.

As has been said above, filming on the Xmas special finished months ago - although I'd assume it's probably still in the latter stages of post-production now, adding final effects and musical scoring, possibly even some ADR. (When I was previewing episodes 9 and 10, we were warned these didn't have final visual effects yet. This is fairly common with technically complex shows, with post-production often complete only a few days before transmission.)

It's certainly possible to put together a trailer for Saturday - but that doesn't mean they *will*.

I'm with Batmannequin on this one. I think it's better to allow viewers to absorb and process the finale's ending. Why dilute it by trailing the next story? With regular episodes, it makes sense to tease the next one. With a big, dramatic, season-tying finale and no episode for another seven weeks, there's plenty of time to make it a centrepiece of the BBC's Xmas season trails from early December on.
