Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to a brand-new show called The X Factor: Project Stars!

I know I mentioned on the Mix Factor final that I’d launch this next week, but I realized I might as well do it now and just extend the application window to suit my needs. Anyway, let’s get right down to business.

WHAT IS IT?
The X Factor: Project Stars is an X Factor forum game which, as the name might suggest, is a little different from other games. Many of these games are based solely on the live shows portion of the original format. That might work for them, but that’s not what I’m aiming for here. No, the aim of this game is to give players and voters alike an experience that is as close to the real thing as possible. Thus, not only will The X Factor: Project Stars include the live shows everyone loves, but a full-blown auditions process, a boot camp stage and judges’ houses too! Mind you, this isn’t exactly new, as it takes some inspiration from older games of mine such as The X Factor: Mix It Up! You could say that this is a spiritual successor of sorts.

THE FORMAT

Like I said, this game aims to simulate the full X Factor judging experience. The first two shows will be audition shows, where the four judges will be shown audition clips of X Factor contestants from the UK, USA and Australia from 2011 onwards. Here’s the interesting part, the contestants will be decided using an RNG rather than hand-picked. This means the judges might come face-to-face with live show acts we all love in the audition phase, but they could just as well face only horrific joke acts. Once the auditions are over, we head over to boot camp. Here, the judges will have to cut the acts down to 5 per category.

Once that’s done, they will each be assigned a category and will be joined by a guest mentor (another forum member) for the judges’ houses stage, where they will pick three acts each to mentor for the remainder of the series. The game then follows the same format as every other one out there, with a number of acts going each week until a winner is crowned – a true star.

HOW DO I SIGN UP?
You might ask yourself: “why are you telling me all this?” Well, as this is a new game, I need four enthusiastic forum members to fill the empty seats on the judging panel. If you think you’ve got what it takes to be a part of The X Factor: Project Stars, please send me a PM containing your motivation behind your decision. That’s all I’m asking, so make it count. This isn’t on a first-come-first-served basis, I will pick the people whose applications I feel are the most promising. Don’t let this deter you though, I always aim to create interesting and diverse panels, not ones filled with four veterans with identical tastes in music.

Good luck everyone, I look forward to reading your applications.

It's an amazing idea for a game and I really want this to do very well.

I will be a loyal viewer to this one, but I will help out for act ideas and such.

I already have some interesting applications in, but do keep them coming.

For now, there's no deadline for the application, so you can basically keep sending them until I manually close it.

So I just used the RNG to select a number of auditionees from the massive list of acts whose X Factor audition clip exists on YouTube. It did a pretty good job at picking decent acts, except for one category which is basically doomed.

Sound interesting and I will be following this.

If the one category that is doomed is the Overs, I will laugh!

Hi guys, I'm new in DS forums! I love these games you create and I hope to be a part of this, but even if I'm not chosen, I want to give my opinions and interact with you guys as much as possible!

I've been getting quite a lot of applications from people I've never even seen on this forum. The ranks of forum game participants have been dwindling lately with many people retiring from it, so I'm very glad to see some renewed interest in them. Could this be the dawn of a new generation of mentors?

I hope so, cause then it gives other games like mine a chance to be lively.

New gamers will have a lot to learn about being indie.

Yeah, but at the same time, it's not a crime for them to pick mainstream songs to start with.

Besides, not everyone has to like Indie.

Received some overnight applications, I just love waking up to those.

Anyway, I might have to close the application process as early as tomorrow if this keeps up. I've had what, 10 applications in one day? Seeing as I already have to disappoint 6 of those people, keeping the application process open until next week (my initial plan) is likely going to do more harm than good.

But there is a silver lining to it, those that don't get on will have a chance to be on one of my games soon.

Sounds very intriguing, and good to know that there are some new faces around! Like Steve, I may snatch some of you for my new game in February

Oh dear, more applications. Where on earth has this sudden interest come from and how am I going to pick four of you?

Nevertheless, keep those applications coming. It's not too late yet!

They really must love your idea.

If only other games had so much interest.

Okay, I have decided to CLOSE the application process due to overwhelming interest. I will reveal the names of the four lucky ones shortly. After your name has been announced, feel free to post your thoughts on your colleagues or the show.

Aaaand...we have liftoff! Please allow me to introduce the first judge of The X Factor: Project Stars.

This young man started out as a weak mentor that picked incredibly obvious mainstream songs. Since then, he's basically become the reverse - an incredible mentor specializing in indie music. He's also somewhat of a household name in the forum game community due to him appearing in way too many forum games. I give you:

I didn't think we'd cross paths again so soon after The Mix Factor, but here we are. Welcome to the panel, I'm sure you'll do a fab job once again and show everyone how it's done.

Our second judge is someone we haven't seen much from lately apart from a few comments here and there. It looked like he went down with the sinking ship that was The Twist Factor, but he's back for more! Hopefully bringing immense amounts of sass to the panel and causing some fireworks, it's the one and only:

If you thought our second judge was a surprise comeback, wait until you see this one. The third judge hasn't been involved in forum games for quite a long time now, but is eager to jump into them once more. He may be a little rusty, but he definitely makes up for it with his enthusiasm. Ladies and gentlemen, it's:
