We just never had a star on that scale of fame in the UK

The adulation, the limos, the mansion.... everything over the top and off
the scale.

The Beatles eventually had more fame and money but they lived very private lives
on a gated housing estate in Weighbridge...Surrey.

I've been to Graceland and even Elvis's plane was totally luxurious!! Amazing place!

He was a great singer and I love his early stuff but not to keen on his later stuff like Moody Blue and its ilk.

As to what happened, well money doesn't buy happiness.

Just realised that Beatlemania was really a later version of Elvismania...
the American teenage girls were going Elvis mad back in the late 50s

they had to wait for Feb 1964 and the arrival of the Beatles to do it all over again !

..... and Elvismania (as you term it) is a later version of Sinatramania.

The whole teenage girls screaming at young male singers thing goes back to a very young Frank Sinatra, just starting his career in the late thirties. Although, for all I know, it could go back much further than that.

Ha ha ha ha.

It was eigh years ago so was probably less in those days. To be honest i'm not even really an Elvis fan but went because my friend wanted to go. I'm glad I did though. It was a real eye opener seeing how mnay people are still obsessed with him. His grave was covered in flowers and gifts even after all these years!!

Possibly partly to do with the fact she was only 14 when they met

He also has Native American Indian and Jewish ancestry. He's not really that different from most other Americans, i.e. a mixture of everything.

thats amazing !
and before Frank Sinatra there was Bing Crosby, and before Bing there was Rudy Vallee. All singing heartthrobs in their day. And before THAT was Rudolph Valentino, not a singer but a silent film actor. Google him and look at the hysteria caused by his death in 1926!!

My theory is that he got famous with rock and roll

but went back to his country roots and
power ballads...

Tues 30 December

its been Elvis night on TV ... an hour long show
kind of like Pricilla's version of events

Looks like she got to make breakfast for him every day , then he
was off riding horses and motorbikes with the Memphis Mafia all day
