Has anyone else had this text from Three today?

"Hello. We need to speak to you about changes to your plan. Please contact us free on 08003583429 to speak to our dedicated team.

Does anyone know what said changes are? The number is busy.

I've heard a rumour about people who have high tethering being targeted, but I don't have any more info. I'd guess you have both tethered significant amounts in the last couple of months - maybe even 100gb???

Me too, I just received the same message. Not going to call them though as they are hardly going to try to give me extra allowances. Guess it's regarding unlimited tethering.

Think it's a good idea for the people that get the message and post in this thread to state how much data they use each month as thee may just be contacting people who use loads.

I use on average 50-80gb per month

It's possible as my tethering has been high lately. I'm nervous about calling them myself. My have has been like yours.

Yeah I got one, I use about 5gb a week, unlimited tethering my arse!

I have the unlimited tethering but my use of it is infrequent (some months not at all) so I think they are simply targeting all people on this plan to try and shift them off regardless of actual usage - because my use of hotspot has been zero in last two months and my data usage on phone has been about 4gb so not particularly high.

2gb total (250mb tethering) in 6 weeks - no text as yet.

Same here, 2.4GB used (with some of it tethered) in about a month. No text received.

I have in the past been quite a heavy tethering user but in the last month or two, not so much. No text message.

I am still within the 12 month minimum term though.

I'm trying to limit my tethering usage. I tweeted three and they just say call them from a landline and wait, they wont tell us about the changes publicly.

From money saving expert@

Quote:
“have received the text this morning and called them. after 1 h wait was told that they are cancelling all 'One plans'. and they will switch me to a new according to my usage in 60 days from receiving the text (i.e. from today). I can change to any other plan or leave 3.

my original 'the One plan' contract has expired several years ago but i managed to switch to sim only One Plan and have been paying £8/m coz i had lots of loyalty discounts. now they say that i can't keep all the discounts and need to pay the same amount as new customers are paying.

it looks like time to say goodbye to 3 unless upgrade team will offer something decent (which is very unlikely these days).”

I'm keen to know if using the upcoming Asus Tansformer Book V will be a way around this when using it as a laptop. I've never had problems using my Padfone Infinty in a similar way. It's technically the same device so might not be regarded as tethering. 'One' can hope.............

I hope this isn't one of the announcements Jabbamk mentioned?! I can understand, if they want to get rid of very heavy tethering users. But wouldn't that be commercial suicide, if they moved everyone of the One Plan? I mean technically I don't really need unlimited tethering, but just the freedom of knowing I can use it is good. That would make me think twice about continuing my contract after the 12 months.

I'd consider moving if 3 want to kick me off the One Plan, but given that my only serious choices are EE (lol) or one of the 3/EE MVNOs I don't exactly have much choice.

Vodafone and O2 are a complete non-starter. I actually want 3G signal.

Because it is more profitable for them to close these plans - it is as simple as that.

This plan was put into action in the middle of September by Three. Knew it was going to go live sometime soon.

I'm not 100% sure of the specifics myself to be honest. All I know is that some people WILL be affected.

Here is the post I made last month about it. Hinted it may be forced at some point.

How long until it's a forced move?

Three's average data use per user is now over 2GB per month.

Users on "The One Plan" use an average of 5.6GB of data per month. On Three, the top 10% of users overall currently consume an average of 24GB of data. The top 10% of users currently account for about ~60% of all data used on the Three network. Three still carry over 45% of all data across UK Mobile Network Operators and over 100 petabytes of data has already been used on Three this year. Last year more than 138 petabytes of data was used on Three. Three also has the highest smartphone penetration of any MNO with ~95% of it's users now using smartphones.

There are currently well over 1m customers on "The One Plan" (1m/12m/24m) so this will be a big campaign no doubt. Three are planning to launch 800Mhz 4G in the new year to bring better indoor coverage but more importantly more capacity to the network.”
