some of them have fantastic music

both the waltzes, sunetra's foxtrot music and simons quickstep - great
the rumba and foxtrot are good too - if they stick to connie francis version then frankie should be ok but dont love it

hate the pasos and charleston

Oh hell, I hate Steve's. Much too much of a dirge for a paso. Very disappointing.

I love Friend Like Me but always imagined it as a quickstep. Still, it should suit Alison but it is very quick.

I think Pixie's looks twee and I have no idea what Mark's is, but otherwise they look good. Frankie and Jake look to have the best, I'd say, though I've no idea how they work for samba or rumba, but they are hugely loved songs. I guarantee my Mum will vote for Jake dancing to that song if he just stands there for the whole thing.

It's a real mixed bag. One or two great and fitting songs. Some shapeless nonentities. Some hackneyed, drab and saccharine ones.

Isn't Sunetra's song more for a waltz?

The other waltzes are unspeakably naff

"Judy and Anton
Paso to I Fought the Law by The Clash."

Oh PLEASE!! Already in stitches.....

My first thought was Three Times A Lady isn't very imaginative for a Waltz. Its third use on Strictly now?

That is as may be, but they are still naff songs IMO.

Mark's is a great waltz, and Jake's is a good rumba - I like la bamba but it is not a samba and used on dwts as a jive - but it does state Connie Francis and not Ricky Valens and her version has a bit more samba to it .

Quickstep and Charleston are connected but yes agree Alisons music would be better as a QS

The Paso's are dire

*BARF*

Surely putting in the one plug for Heart FM last week was enough without having to do a Theme Week based around their daytime playlist?

They may well do, but the viewers (well this one anyway) may continue to hope for something that ticks both boxes

Oooh I hate it when a good male dancer gets Rumba no man in 10 years has ever got above 36 yes the song is good. But I reserve judgement till ITT footage.
Surprised at no Argentine Tango

well yeah would love to have right tempo and great music but this is strictly and they are not noted for that but do see your point - one look at this week's paso's and I feel for anyone who has to dance to them.

Not a great fan of three times a lady and don't use it at the school but admit I like Weekend in New England. Love the foxtrot track this week but not a foxtrot or a waltz but have no doubt Brendan will cope with it

Quite a few good songs for a change.

Though I have little feel for a Ballroom / SCD Samba and automatically think of a Brazilian Samba which is very different. And for me la Bamba is more Salsa (by way of Mexico) than Samba (whatever that is)

Bobby Darin was one of Connie Francis' writers

Bobby Darin La Bamba

Connie Francis La Banba

Ritchie Valens - La Bamba

Nerve attempted a Quickstep but this sounds appropriate

I Got Rhythm by Bobby Darin.

somewhere in between Bobby's and Connie's would be ok - richie valens one is nearer a jive or cha than samba but think on the night it will be ok but not a choice i would have made for a samba

Let us think back to a previous era and consider the likelihood of the mother of a British Wimbledon champion dancing ballroom to punk music as prime time BBC entertainment.

Always interesting to hear your take on the songs, bendymixer.

On the pasos, I'd have thought at least The Clash has a bit of drama and punch about it and people know it, whereas 'Use Somebody' is the sort of monotonous whine they put on adverts where you can't work out what on earth it's supposed to be an advert for, and usually turns out to be for a car. (Apologies to all Kings of Leon fans.) It seems to me to have nothing about it that suits the paso?

am amazed this was on youtube but in our past stage shows we have used this as a disco/samba and is much the version of La Bamba I prefer if I had to use this track for a samba - ha aha it is a product of the 70's and does age me

Imo, I would say Connie's version suits salsa the best. I love the samba but the music used is usually wrong or is more suited to salsa. Here's a great example of samba music for ballroom - not too fast for the celebs, plus I always think if they did use the correct music for ALL the dances it would encourage them to be better technically. The wonderful Slavik and Karina dancing to Ella Fitzgerald's samba version of A-Tisket-A-Tasket.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXtOcUVKV98

well yes I agree and could probably rattle off tens of appropriate sambas but we rarely get that on SCD would not use La Bamba for a samba if I am honest - and how many times do they get sambas for a salsa ? one day they will get it right - we use that ella samba a lot at the dance school

At least it isn't the usual all purpose disco to fit Samba or Salsa.

my brother (who used to compete against anton) is in stitches at the thought of Anton and a punk paso - but have to agree with you about Steve's it bears no resemblence to one and not really dramatic - all I can think of with that track is Ray Quinns routine on DOI
