That would be quite an achievement. My 2012 N7 is now virtually unusable due to being so slow.

Make it so it doesn't switch on?!

Already had that a few times. Turned out that the battery had disconnected.

It now takes about as long to power up as my Playbook.

Likewise. But never underestimate the ingenuity of Google's software engineers.

I think my N7 must have notified them of my last remaining use for it - being lugged around in a rucksack when I go mountain biking, to log my routes using Mytracks. Clearly irritated by their failure to render the device entirely useless, they pushed out an update to Mytracks which cunningly renders all plotted tracks as multi-coloured polygons, in the manner of a piece of 1960s Op Art. But only on the N7. Genius! Now I can't use it for anything at all!

It is odd just how many devices have been bricked by the update. I wonder why their road tests didn't show this up before release.

I've had the 5.1.1 update.

The only problem I had prior to this was videos on YouTube randomly pausing.

This update hasn't fixed it.

I've had that problem too when watching videos on YT. I thought it was down to my internet connection when the videos randomly started pausing all by themselves. Glad to know i'm not alone on this matter and you're right the new update hasn't fixed the issue.

Interestingly, I've never had that problem with my N7 and I've played loads of YT videos on it.

You haven't updated to Android 5.1, have you?

No, nor have any intention of wrecking my tablet doing so.

put 4.4 back on my 2012 N7, it all seemed great on 5.1.1 but it slowly got worse so bugger it.

Lollipop starts off great. Then it's all downhill. After a few weeks it crawls along and is virtually unusable. So we have people saying how good it is at first. Ask them a few weeks down the line if they put lots of apps on it and use it daily. 4.4 doesn't have that problem. It may slow down a bit but not the in the same way lollipop does

I don't know if lollipop on the 2012 N7 stays fast if you keep it free of apps but what's the point of that!

Fired up my N7 for the first time in a few weeks ...

It is definitely the interface that is slow, for no particularly good reason. Actual in-app performance is fine - well, I only play Hill Climb Racing, which works as well now as it ever has.

Google really have screwed something up on the OS build.

Back to 4.4.4 for me on the 2012 N7. I tried 5.1.1 and it was ok at first but slowly got worse. As this w/e has such bad weather, I decided to revert back and am now reinstalling various apps.

Yeah, reluctantly I think I'm gonna have to concede too. Was great at first and OK for a while, but the incredibly slow boot up and general lagginess over time is so frustrating. It's easy to blame the hardware, but for me it should easily have enough oomph inside to be able to deliver a decent tablet experience. It can only be Lollipop to blame, which is a shame because on the N4 it's awesome.

Decided for now to try a proper factory reset. I've done them before but always selected to restore from previous. This time I'm going to go for a completely clean start and manually restore my stuff bit by bit. I've never done this before and so far it's a pain, but at least I'll be able to say I tried it!

Mines useless as well no matter what I've tried.

What's the best site for downgrading the N7?

Install this for managing the downgrade
Wugfresh - http://www.wugfresh.com/nrt/

You can get factory images from

https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images

look for nakasi or nakasig (depending on your model)

Flash stock + unroot button.
You get prompted if there is something missing or if you need to perform some additional steps.
Getting the pc and device to communicate can be a stumbling block, but normally ticking or unticking Media device or Camera from
Settings -> Storage -> (3 dots) USB computer connection sorts it.

If you have and personal files, photos, etc, then make sure you back them up first.

Thanks once again, back on 4.4.4 and running as smooth as silk.

It's unbelievable how much they managed to screw it up with lolipop.

As a long time Android user I'm slowly starting to lose faith with Google and some of their antics. Their antipathy towards their users is starting to grate with us, and if a reasonable alternative ever presents itself then they may find quite a few of us jumping ship.
Just a shame that MS hasn't taken off on phones and tablets.

Without trying to cause offence to anyone here who may have a different perspective, I've taken a rather pragmatic view of this. I do not see what Lollipop brings to the table short of swishy graphics and a new "desktop theme". There may be stuff under the surface but quite frankly I haven't seen any tangible benefits of being on Lollipop. My phone, the 1stGen Moto G 4G, updated two weeks ago and there haven't been any issues thus far. Other than the fact it is the "latest" version and we all have selfish yet illogical desires to have the most up-to-date tech and software, I see little benefit in putting Android L on a perfectly useable, still powerful and smoothly working Android 4.4.4 device.

Considering the number of devices bricked by lollipop, I think most of us on here would agree with you.

Use an alternative like Endo or Orux. Not too many people bother with mytracks anyway. It ain't that good.

Cosidering it is well tested, likely is old apps causing it.

Though I do not really trust any of the cheap memory inside tablets for reliability.
