It's over 2 years through right, so a lot more pricey for the 2nd year?

It's a 12 month contract.

When vodafone and EE reduce their prices i.e. doing special offers for a limited period, there are better deals out there than three now.

And it’s not necessarily about unlimited data for everybody now who was on the one plan with three. If vodafone and EE offer 16GB or 20GB of data per month was plenty enough data for them, and they were cheaper at the time than three’s unlimited data offer for ex one plan customers beyond their minimum term, they were better offers than three’s. And so it has proved with a number of ex three one plan customers now at EE or vodafone, and in fact happy customers at EE or vodafone.

I got the letter today and rang for my PAC code. Spoke to a very nice chap in India who apologised for the massive price hike and said he did not blame me for wanting to leave. I also told him I need to leave for work in 10 mins (well actually 25 but hey...) and he immediately offered me 12GB data. 200 minutes. 12 month contract. £17.00 a month. Whilst dithering - (I was actually geared up to ask for this) he then also offered me

Unlimited data of which 30gb is tetherable plus 200 cross network mins and AYCE texts on a 12 month contract for £20 per month (it would be £25 if you don't pay by direct debit) - so I have gone for this.

I have a 14 day cooling off period and have asked for the deal to be confirmed by letter (as he is unable to email it).

That's their standard deal on the website, so should be fine.

I don't think you get 30gb to tether online do you?

I got my letter this morning so I'll think about it; I use about 40/45gbs a month of data, and the new deals are more pricey . I'll still need unltd data but what's annoying me is the suddenly patchy 4g/3g/H/H+ constant switching my phone is doing. It used to sit on 4g all the time and was very fast.
Perhaps EE might offer better? I don't know, I'll have to look into it properly at the deals etc

From the details page on the plan:
"On our All-you-can-eat data plans, you can use up to 30GB of your data each month to create a Personal Hotspot within the UK. "

I've just moved to EE on their £16.49 16GB deal and my Internet is faster in the places I need it. I just need to flash my Sony to EE firmware and I'll have native WiFi calling.

I really can't fault the EE network, but I used it for work most of last year so am not really surprised.

So far I'm glad I moved. My battery is lasting better (probably signal strength in poor service areas).

I have recently had letter from Three advising my sim 200 30 day rolling contract at 12.90 is going up to £20 which is a massive rise. Spoke with CS but got nothing and got my PAC code. Moving to ID now through uswitch deal for 12.50 30 day for 500 mins (300 extra), 5000 texts and 6gb data. It looks like it's got 3gb added onto the normal contract. This is using the three network. Will just have to see how I do on data but normally use between 5gb and 7gb as stream away from home if hotel wifi isn't great.

Hopefully they will lose lots of customers over this decision and all the reason why their takeover of O2 should never happen.

Whoever decided 2GB was enough for 24m contracts and that 4GB was enough for SIM Only should be fired. Three spent a very long time marketing themselves as the "Network built for the Internet" yet they've really thrown a lot of that away now. Sure they still do Unlimited handset data, and sure it'll help the network in the long run but they are the smallest MNO in the UK and they're not exactly growing at a fast pace any more.

Other networks in the UK are able to provide fixed data plans with more tethering than Three and sometimes even at a better price, and don't get me started on other countries. Three has moved away from its USP which was that it was a low cost network with a focus on data. Now its a premium brand that tries to sell itself on value by offering random crap that no one cares about like 0800 numbers and "free" 4G. Feel at Home is a good idea and one that I agree with and I'm looking forward to the new additions coming soon.

But Three have really started to become another EE or another O2 when it comes to price and tariffs. The average data use on the network is 2.6GB yet their fixed allowances only go up to either 2GB on 24m or 4GB on SIM. You need to purchase an All You Can Eat data plan to truly use data and it's now priced sky high and for some who just want to use 5GB they can get a better deal on another network.

Three just cares about profit at the end of the day and I don't blame them because every company does. But there was a time when they did come across as slightly genuine in wanting to provide the best deal for every customer to increase subscriber numbers. Now that they're near their subscriber target they've done a U-Turn. What Three need to realise is that many people still have the old perceptions that they are crap for signal and just a budget provider, now they're a premium provider. Three was always the provider that shook the market up and they've done it before, don't see them doing it again.

OK i'm done.

(BTW, all the views above are from the view of someone who knows about the mobile industry and calls himself a tech nerd or whatever the term is. The general public won't care about half of what I said and that is what Three are banking on, and it'll work)”

All mobile operators have to charge 0.00 for 0800 calls to their customers now whether it’s PAYG or contract, so it’s not their own choice to offer it now.

Premium rate for making freephone 0800 and 0808 calls from a mobile that so many mobile operators charged for so long was totally ridiculous when it should have been free from a mobile all along.

And 0342 0343 0344 0345 0370 and 0371 are far better than 0842 0843 0844 0845 0870 and 0871 as it’s far cheaper to make such calls from a mobile and indeed a landline too.

I have just come to the end of my 24 months One Plan paying £41/month including a 16GB iPhone 5s. I just called up & was offered the 30GB plan (all can be tethered) plus AYCE minutes & texts for £20/month instead of £30/month on a 12 month contract. I couldn't be bothered to haggle or threaten to leave. £20/month is what i am happy paying & I have never used more than 25GB/month even when I moved house & was without broadband for 3 weeks. I am much happier than if I had called last week & only got 12GB tethering allowance even if it was with AYCE data.”

I have just had the letter confirming my new contract. Bizarrely the price is £29/month with a permanent discount of £9/month for a net cost of £20/month. Why do Three do this? Is it some accounting fiddle?

The best deals available from Three for ex-One Plan users that I have currently seen are:-

£23/month AYCE data/text/minutes 30GB can be tethered
£20/month AYCE text/minutes 30GB data all of which can be tethered

Has anyone got any other variations? e.g. AYCE data (30GB tether) + 200/600 minutes.

Just now I am on the sim only contract with Three which gives me 200mins/unlimited data/unlimited texts but just 4GB for tethering hotspot for £17 per month. However, I see Three are doing a sim only contract with 200mins/unlimited data/unlimited texts but with 30GB tethering hotspot for £20 per month and I am thinking of upgrading to that plan.

I was told that Three are increasing the prices by £3 in May and was wondering if I was to upgrade to that plan before May would I get it for £20 for the 12 months? The guy at the local Three store told me I would get the plan for £20 for 12 months if I was to upgrade now even though the price is increasing in May but I'm thinking it could be sales talk as I don't really trust those sales staff at Three stores. Please advise.

It looks like my dad has got "the letter", for some reason I still haven't got mine even though I joined before he did

As long as PAYG stays the same price and the 12GB of data doesn’t get reduced, I’ll be happy.

Has anyone managed to upgrade to the 30G plan from the 12 - and for £23. Or is that expecting too much when not threatening to leave them?

They’re worried now that you could be leaving.

That’s a good price considering there’s 30GB of tethering included.

But it seems like they are now offering plans with higher amounts of hotspot data to people who are unlikely to consume or tether anywhere near 30GB of data per month.

That didn't really answer my question. I am wondering if I will get that plan for £20 for the 12 months even though it is going up to £23 in May. Please advise

The Vodafone 20gb plan is on offer again at £24 this time, it was £20 a while ago rather than the regular price of £40 for anyone receiving the letter. Offer ends 27th April

Is this discount the same as the last, in that it is only 12 months, reverting to £40 thereafter?

And if you're super quick and go via e2save, you get £120 cashback payable on months 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 plus £15.15 cashback by using top cashback. Also, I am going for free Netflix. I have Netflix already. So after taking off all the cashback and Netflix I'll be paying around £5.50 a month for the phone contract.

Last time this happened, they removed the cashback on the E2Save website as the plan is already discounted. I am sure they'll do the same tomorrow.

It’s that old "no double saving" chestnut.

Ugh! So I now don't know what to do. Do I go with EE, who I know are good around here and have that mammoth 4G network? Or do I dive into the unknown and give a rapidly improving Vodafone a go?

Anybody here use Vodafone in South Wales? Specifically Cardiff, Cwmbran, and the Valleys?

If you go abroad a bit, the VF £3/5 daily deal for unthrottled data is great. EE's add on not only restricts after 100MB but currently it can't be added to the 16GB plan (which is being investigated).

In the UK, EE's coverage is clearly ahead of everyone and will get even better soon. But it's 16GB not 20GB.

The EE deal ends on the 14th, but if ordered online you get 14 days to try it. Vodafone now has a 30 day no quibble money back guarantee.
