It's getting ever closer to make me want to consider EE. I can live with 3GB (more would be nice) and it's a minimal difference in price - but in return I get 4G coverage where I live, whereas 3 look set to be doing it in about 2020

GiffGaffs 'unlimited' data seems to be a joke, looking at their forum people are banned or suspended for all kinds of reasons. It's 'unlimited'.. as long as you use very little!

To be fair giffgaff is rebranding its "unlimited" data to more accurately reflect its performance. Going forward it will be known as "unusable"

what we need is for the ASA to apply fixed line regulations to mobile broadband, on fixed line broadband unlimited is not allowed to have a fUP, and any throttling can be moderate only. giffgaff would have to abandon their plans overnight with such a rule.

I have done 3 reports to the ASA already on this but they continue to claim unlimited means something different on mobile vs fixed line broadband.

I took the plunge to EE a couple of months ago and haven't regretted it at all. Much much faster and better data than three and afaik not capped as three is after 3pm.

The only thing I would say before moving to EE is measure how much data you use in a month on Three before moving because the last thing you want is 2gb of data on EE and find its not enough.

Exactly the same for me. I moved to EE and it was a revelation using 4G.

I also discovered that I don't need unlimited data, as I'm now using on average between 3 & 5 gig out of my 10 gig allowance!

Hi all,

There have comments made on here about Three no longer offering any sort of retention deals or loyalty discounts - I thought I'd add my experience for the benefit of others about to come to the end of a contract:

I've just completed a 2yr one plan contract on an S4 at £37/pm. (phone was "free" at the time and I got cashback, so it wasn't too bad). I rang them telling them I wanted to convert my account to PAYG as their "all in one 15" plan seemed like the best value to me.

I was offered all the usual tarriffs, as well as upgrade offers, but I stuck to my original request. Eventually I was put through to what I assume to be a second tier of customer services (still an off shore call centre), this is where the deals began.

I use between 1-3gb data a month, but I insisted I wanted the "freedom" of unlimited data and a 1 month rolling contract. Eventually I was offered:

unltd mins, texts & 4gb data for £12/pm
unltd mins, texts & handset data (inc 4gb tethering) for £17/pm.

I went for the £12 offer as it's enough data for my needs and I can always top up to unlimited with the £5 add on if needed in a heavy month.

The paperwork has come through and it's listed as a £23/pm 30 day contract with a £11/pm loyalty discount added.

So, Three still do loyalty/retentions discounts - Interestingly though they made a point of checking and accurately my data usage over the last few months during the call, so I imagine that weighs heavily in terms of the discounts they offer, possibly a way of rooting out heavy data users.

It's not a stellar deal by comparison to the £15 One Plans that Three were dishing out last year, but in the current market it's a deal I'm very happy with and suits my needs.

I thought I'd share this if anyone is in a similar position trying to haggle for a deal

I thought those 2 prices were posted by Jabbamk1 as the 'standard' offer for people coming off the One Plan. I don't think they are specials, they are on offer to all leaving the One Plan I thought.

Unfortunately the forum search sucks, so I can't find what he posted, but it was roughly that. EDIT: actually I think it had limited minutes.

I still haven't been contacted by Three and I'm still on the One Plan at the moment.

Interesting - the price I ended up with was definitely a discount on the initial price offered. Looking at their website, the 1 month sim only plans have gone up a lot over the last few months. So it's only really a "deal" against today's prices. If you're only paying £15/pm for it, hang on to that one plan as long as you can!!

The prices aren't bad, but when I get my letter (I've had to tether a lot recently so I suspect it'll be soon) I'm gonna jump ship to either Voda or EE because I don't want to be caught in the mess of the merger. It was a good deal while it lasted but all good things must come to an end.

It was a mistake for them to offer such cheap prices with so little restriction just to build their subscribers in my mind.

OH and I are on the One Plan (sim only) and haven't been contacted by 3 either. I've only ever tethered when my home broadband has been down i.e. rarely.

If my plan is withdrawn I see they do a sim only plan with AYCE data and 200 minutes for £17 which would be fine for me.

Keep your eye on it, I did the same and then mysteriously the loyalty bonus has disappeared on this month's bill... I'll be on the phone tomorrow.

I was under the impression that all the add-ons were now dead and buried, did they confirm you could still have a £5 add-on for Internet?

It was listed in the documentation they sent with the new contract. But most of that was out of date too, so it's anyone's guess. I'll try to buy one later this evening.

This is what I can see on the website. Looks as though it hasn't been updated in a long time though.

I have been on the One Plan for £15/month for fifteen months now,and have had no contact from Three as yet regarding having to move to a higher priced tariff. Long may it continue.

I'm still on unlimited AYCE on 30 day contract - no contact yet, but when they do I'll leave. Simples. I joined Three for data.

And in place of a phone line at home, I have an Android phone as a permanent broadband solution on pay a you go and I'm still utilising the payg £15 all you can eat data for Tethering - I have several queued up so should be ok for at least another 6 months.

Three provided these services and didn't set a cap, whatever anyone thinks about the rights and wrongs of high usage, its not really the customers fault if the facility is in place and put there by the network.
