If you move to South Korea they do this great unlimited data plan on LG U+, and you get 4G everywhere so no need to disable 4G.

I'm sure that re-locating to South Korea and the cost of living there is cheaper than an extra couple of quid every month to Three...

Would be a bitch of a commute to work though

Three's 4G here is ok, however nothing special (5-7 Mbit), which is why I've turned it off. I have no real need or desire for 4G anyway now that the novelty has worn off. 3G does the job for me...

Have seen some really impressive speeds on 4G EE here now though (for all the speed freaks out there!) 65Mbit clocked here the other day, but that's for another thread

Thought there were several announcements or is it all bad news relating to shafting loyal customers for tariffs 46% more expensive for less features.

There should be an announcement about other network stuff and also more countries for feel at home.

But I have no idea when this will happen. I thought it would have happened by now tbh.

Oh and tariff prices aren't being put up, most people will continue to pay the same price and stuff.

Yeh but it's 4G!

That's like saying you'd buy chips without ketchup. Sure it's not essential but it enhances the experience (or taste in this case).

But I know where you're coming from haha, Would be nice to have 100% 4G coverage and VoLTE and LTE Advanced already! Come on guys, sort it out!

Thanks

If i can keep the same tariff but swap unlimited tethering for a 4GB tethered cap that would make me feel a little happier.

The annoying part for me is the distinct lack of similar tariffs at the same price plan so i was not looking forward to the phone call once i receive the text. So i hope they are already prepped with that very deal for £15 p/m

My minute usage at the moment is approx 400 mins however it is creeping up and I'm worried if I accept a 600 min plan on Three that eventually I'd exceed the allowance.”

I disable 4G also, mainly because 3G is a lot faster then 4G where I work and I'm guessing my phone may use a little less battery with 4G off.

That's because that pricepoint is too low, that's why even giffgaff, who don't operate shops or a call centre have moved their unlimted data which doesn't include any tethering and is subject to about 15GB usage will cost £20 from March.

Calls and texts used to subsidise data, that is over. Data wasn't as costly for the networks before Netflix and the beefing up of cloud services, Apple's all devices synced together, iCloud and a whole load of new services which have massively increased in usage over the last couple of years.

What people don't get is that the data landscape has changed so much in the last 2 years, just in that small time-frame a whole load of new services have appeared, or those that launched 4 years ago have suddenly become adopted at an amazing rate as mainstream products.

If we're all using more of these services somebody has to pay for it, the 2011 or 2012 price point for what you wanted was £15, but given the changes detailed above, the 2015 price-point is about £5 more, and in a few years it may even rise slightly more. If you can't afford it, consider dropping down to a lower fixed data plan, but don't expect that £15 price-point from 2011 or 2012, it is unrealistic.

10% of users used 60% of data right? These are likely using it for home broadband or p2p. So kill them off, 60% saved on data costs.

Implement better distributed caching and work with netflix connect for localised cached copies of content for cheaper streaming and less peering charges.

They could have cleaned this up a long time ago but let the hardcore of data users continue. They announced after last June when apparently they saw this data increase as an issue that 4G was not going up in price. But they knew the problem they faced and most probably knew to combat this prices would have to rise. Seems a bit two faced to me and a situation that could have been eased.

It seems to me that Three are basically increasing most people's price plans in a stealthy manner.

1. They claim too much data is being used re: tethering

You can still use AYCE data on a handset.
99% of what can undertaken on a tethered device can be done on any 4G smartphone so the same amount of data will be used regardless.

2. Remember they campaigned and championed the fact that mobile networks shouldn't be allowed to increase our bills.

Most of us I'm sure are only paying a maximum of £18 (some much less) sim only. Now they can make us all pay more for less, but without increasing our bills in a roundabout way. If they really wanted to they could easily just apply a tethering cap on our existing plans, but they wouldn't claw back any extra revenue.

My own personal opinion is that limiting tethering will do absolutely nothing to ease congestion and improve slow speeds experienced in some areas. If you look at the forums of networks which never allowed Tethering to begin with, they are full of complaints. Giff Gaff, as one example that I know of, had a huge thread some months ago, regarding slow speeds, and at that time, non of its data+call tariffs allowed any kind of tethering. EE are the same, their tariffs, I believe, have tethering which is limited to the total monthly allowance on the tariff, but once again, complaints about speeds are again evident from some customers, some of these complaints are even in 4G areas.

So based on this, I think that those thinking that its going to be a magic solution for any local speed problems could end up disappointed. The only thing which is going to prove the point either way is time, but I suspect by the end of Q1 2015, people will be having exactly the same issues as they have now, nothing will change, other than the monthly fee that a lot are now paying for their 'revised' tariffs.

If you've already past the 24 months of the contract you signed up to, your pay month contract effectively has become a rolling 1 month contract. Unless you agreed with 3 to sign up for a new 24 month contract after your original or previous contract ran out.

Anyone on this thread who supports threes decision, believes that unlimited tethering is unviable and believes their service will improve because of this are all naive, gullible fools and its this collective of easily led minds that enable companies to exploit people time and time again.

There's nowhere that provides cheap fixed landline wifi or broadband for people with poor credit.

It looks like people are going to have to buy a portable wifi unit with their 3 sim in. But buy it from Amazon, not from 3 as it will cost a fortune.

+1

Three are doing the dirty on their loyal customers. I have had no problems with speeds and congestion so I think getting rid of unlimited tethering is their way of being bullies.

oh ok. artmuzz has not had any problems with speed or congestion, so nobody on the entirety of the three network has, either.

Three have made a business decision, thats all. Perfectly legal, perfectly normal.

"somebody has to pay for it" wtf, YOUR paying for it, always have been, and you will continue to. What are you suggesting? That three are gifting us this extra data, and they are paying for it out of charity? What you don't get is that you have allowed yourself to be conditioned to think in a certain way, you believe their spin, why do prices need to ccontinually rise?

Or China

A neighbour bought one of these several months ago, and its worked flawlessly with a 3 data sim. We only have DC-HSDPA from '3' in the area, so i've no idea whether its 4G compatible on any network in this Country as he can't test it, but if it is then its going to be a bit of a bargain.

I think you're missing the business / economics point here.

I agree that getting rid of the bandwidth hogs will only make a minor difference to speeds. Like you say other networks struggle with fewer data users.

Annoys me when people on here claim they got their smartphone absolutely free when they have been paying £35 or £38 per month every month for 2 years.

They have probably paid too much of their £35 or £38 per month for the phone itself.

And???

I'm not questioning the legality, i'm questioning the morality of it, and overall the decisions of these bloody oversized companies and their continual attempts to claw more money out of us while giving out less and less.
Its legal?? Thats okay then, its just business then, that excuses them to lie, make offers under false pretences? Thats what your saying. Business equates to being unscrupulous without a conscious, again very conditioned thinking.

Did I say other customers were having good speeds too with Three? I said I have never really had speed problems. Anyway its going to be a shock on the customers who welcome this decision to phase out unlimited tethering thinking its going to make their speeds better as it will not.

I don't know why Three couldn't cap the tethering to about 15GB like on their mobile broadband packages.

Because we live in a capitalist country like the UK where businessmen and executives get richer and the people get exploited.
