Three phases out "The One Plan" and Unlimited tethering

I did move to EE before being pushed, I think I was lucky enough to move when I did, I got the 10GB plan and bumped into someone I used to work with who organised me the F&F discount, so my 10GB only costs £16 odd a month. For that I get consistent high speeds, much better coverage, visual voicemail and now WifiCalling (with VoLTE probably happening before Three as well).

I haven't missed the one plan or Three at all (I have a PAYG sim for any Feel at Home use I might need).

What a surprise this "phased approach" seems to have run aground after it got rid of the heavy users. I never really believed they would risk losing so many customers.

Unfortunately I wouldn't get too confident that they've finished moving people and will let some people off.

Is that based on anything firm or just a hunch?

Three paused the process but will be continuing to move people off all legacy plans at some point.

We just need to be grateful that a lot of us have enjoyed the One Plan for a lot longer than expected (it was said that by March everyone would have been changed).

I got the OP SIM Only for my son last June (just before the 4gb tethering allowance came in), so he's contracted for a few months yet and I can't see how they could/would move people still in contract?

Exactly the same for me, except I signed up through mobilephonesdirect for the £165 cashback).

Other than a bit of aggro getting VAT invoices, I'm really pleased I moved from the One Plan to EE.

They aren't doing those in contract. I thought it had been made clear throughout this discussion that they're doing people out of contract, and will continue to do so until the last person is moved off as people end their minimum terms.

I have a contract. I'm on a 30 day AYCE plan. I just also have a payg sim which i use for home broadband. All my contract says is that Tethering isn't supported or words to that effect. That seems to be true for most people, but not for me. For whatever reason, Tethering is supported. Long may it last!

I would very much doubt that, maybe 5 years ago that might have been true, but now everyone is a much heavier user than back then and my usage at home is pretty low compared to most (25gb or under most months).

Also I see very little speeds problems on my local site to my home, achieving speeds over 3G of 12Mbps upwards - Full HD video on my smart tv are no problem, so its clear there are no issues with congestion.

Tethering is working. It probably shouldn't, but Three is either not detecting it on your account or you've got a nice VPN setup that's hiding tethering.

Either way, it's not allowed. Being able to do something despite it being against the T&Cs doesn't mean you're allowed to do it. You are merely doing it anyway.

I am surprised you are even trying to convince anyone that it means anything else, so it would seem you must be trolling.

I suppose you'd also think it okay to travel on a train without buying a ticket if there were no gates or staff to check your ticket. If nobody asks for a ticket, you clearly don't have to buy one, right? And if nobody caught you, there's no harm done?

No vpn here sorry to disappoint you. Its says nothing in my t&cs about Tethering, it simply says its not supported.

I'm not trolling - I'm simply disagreeing with you.

Thats not the same. But to follow your analogy, if I bought a standard ticker and somehow I had been given a First Class ticket, yes I would enjoy sitting in first class.

If you mean I am disagreeing with you, then yes I am.

Btw, Meme insults in a Thread are very 2002.

Nope, it's entirely relevant to your attitude. Sums it up perfectly...

No, it would be you getting given a standard class ticket that you paid for - and then seeing that there's nothing to stop you entering first class. And because nobody stops you from being in there, you simply think that your standard class ticket entitles you to use first class.

I think that analogy is for another forum

I'm still on The One Plan with unlimited tethering. These are just my observations, whilst I was using a Windows PC Three detected my tethering very easily, as soon as I connected and would throttle the connection heavily during peak times. Now that I use a Mac, they don't seem to be detecting it at all, and I'm free to down up to 50Mb/s to my Mac during peak times.

EDIT: Thinking about it a bit more, I'm using an iPhone 5s so it's configured with 2 APNs, it should be dead easy to detect my tethering. Perhaps kicking all the heavies off has freed tethering capacity for those still remaining.

Are we guessing that they have specifically kicked the high tethering users off 1st, or is that definite?

I was very high usage and hadn't been kicked off two months ago so I assume not?

I don't know how people tether on payg. I tried it with my iPad just to stream tune in and it was useless buffering all the time. Speed test on my phone was 25mbs and on iPad was 0.07mbs.

They cap tethering speeds fairly quickly if you use a lot of data, in my experience.

iPad's and iPhone use a separate APN for tetherng traffic, Android devices don't seem to.

Android devices running Android 5.0 or later should use a separate APN for tethering when a Three SIM is inserted.

I noticed when putting a SIM in a Nexus 6 with Android 5.1 that it has now got two APNs for Three. One is for 3Hotspot.

I know Android can now use different APNs for handset data and for tethering, so I assume Three is starting to use it. Of course, I'm sure it's fairly easy to edit and get around (but not by most users).

I have to disagree. In my experience they don't cap at all with normal usage (e.g. browsing and streaming services). I'm using a payg sim in a android phone and speeds at either end are almost the same.

As I've said before my Apple devices, Laptops, Skybox, Netflix apps and Roku boxes are downloading on demand stuff all the time without any restrictions.

Perhaps Three will use this as a more reliable way to detect tethering. Like you say mosst people wont know how to edit APN's (except for the people on here).
