If there is one thing i've noticed, price wars won't happen till the end of a generation. So I wouldn't expect any real competitive pricing / great deals as standard till after 2018 now.

What plan do they offer after kicking you off the One plan? Is it something that is available to everybody or something a bit special?

Nothing special at all it seems, and as prices keep going up then those kicked off earlier this year could be better off.

With the new SIM only 8GB plan coming in August, I have to assume the AYCE option will go up in price a bit more. It might just be a few quid, but still.

You can tether from the People's Operator Sim??

In addition to data, how many minutes / texts do you need?

I asked them on live chat. I was told it doesn't include tethering, but they are looking to introduce it, but do not know when that will be.

You're not allowed to tether and I wouldn't imagine they'll be rushing to change that (given - like BT - they probably hope that most people won't use all the data up, which is far easier to do with tethering). I hope introducing 4G access will be higher up the list of priorities.

But it works well and TPO is able to sell it as being '1GB per day' (more some months of course!) and there are also some pretty good offerings for less money too.

Perhaps ideal for handset users who stream a lot of video, or put in a tablet. The 30 day contract is also good.

Am I right in saying that all customers will be off the One Plan by the end of the year?

I don't see how that would be possible. Three only started moving people off towards the last few months of last year. Meaning someone could have signed up to a 24 month contract just beforehand and so will have until towards the end of 2016 before having to move off. Or I suppose Three could try changing the terms of the existing contract and just say if you want to leave without penalty you can.

Sorry my mistake for not being clear!

Let me rephrase: does Three ideally want all out-of-contract customers off the One Plan by the end of the year?

I would assume so, it seems to be picking up pace again with lots of people getting the letter.

By March 2016.

The One Plan was discontinued on 24 month contract in March 2014.

I'm getting home most nights expecting a letter from Three. Can't believe that I have had a reprieve for so long!

Snap. Been out of contract on the £15 one plan since July 2014 so 12 months now.

if you have multi accounts, dont abuse the data & have a fair amount of call traffic 3 will probably leave you alone...

But eventually they will upgrade you anyway.

As been said many times, Three don't want anyone on the One Plan anymore.

I don't think cutting back on usage will save anyone.

Are people still receiving the text - or it is just a letter now?

I called into the 3 shop yesterday to look at the new plans. The £17 12 month contract looks the closest, but only 4 Gb of tethering and none of the plans offer more. If you ignore the text or letter you will be put on the £30 per month rolling (ouch). The friendly assistant said that it was people abusing the tethering that caused the plan to be cancelled. Shame really as it was very good.

They're increasing tethering on SIM Only to 8GB in August.

That's good, I'm 18 months out of contract on the One Plan. No notice so far, don't abuse it or use huge amounts of data, about 1-4GB a month handset data and tethering some months none, some months 10-15GB.

Same as it ever was - a few spoil it for the rest and then it's the usual case of using a hammer to crack a nut.

The fault was Three allowing totally unlimited tethering, followed by suggesting usage up to 1000GB was okay, and then - shock horror - discovering people started to use it.

I don't believe anyone can be considered to have abused something that Three actively used and promoted to acquire customers.

The question has to be; WHY did Three ever allow totally unlimited tethering, and then have to start introducing TrafficSense and eventually hard limits of 2, 4 and now 8GB?

I disagree completely.

Using it as a replacement for a home broadband connection was not the intention and it was never promoted that way.

The whole point of the One Plan was to offer a plan where you could use your phone as much as you wanted to, without having to worry about allowances.

The average user would have used Tethering with their tablet or laptop when they were out of the home, not to connect several devices 24/7. For these purposes, an allowance of 2GB-8GB is going to be adequate.

Tethering has not generally been promoted by any network. They much prefer to sell mobile broadband deals.

But Three actively promoted the One plan as unlimited, allowing tethering, no restrictions other than the 1000GB usage figures being touted. They also heavily promoted themselves as the network built for the internet.

While it was most likely a small percentage that 'abused' the data allowances, they were only doing what Three said was acceptable.

Three never actively promoted tethering and the 1000GB limit.
