AYCE data doesn't have the same attraction when tethering is limited to 12GB. I looked through my bills for the past year & I rarely use more than 4GB. Two months when I moved & didn't have any broadband I used 11GB & 23GB mostly tethering so only in one month have I ever really used AYCE but then wouldn't have been able to use it all for tethering on a new contract limited to 12GB.

I got a text from EE last week offering 4GB of data and unlimited everything else for £18.89 per month.

I'm on the One Plan at £18 a month but still no letter- I'd imagine that those who are paying the higher price for the tariff will be targeted last.
I'm not sure how they're doing it. My wife connected to the One Plan (at £15) not too long after me, but she hasn't had a letter.

It would make sense to hit those paying £15 first, then £20 then £25. It also makes sense to hit those who tethered the most, or had the highest monthly data average.

My average is still low, probably within 12GB and I've not tethered since December where I used 5GB and it still came in under 12GB overall.

My wife uses hardly any data, so for her AYCE data was very much a peace of mind thing. She's never tethered once! Maybe she'll last a bit longer... but it will still happen.

Thing is, for her, she can probably get a better deal from just about every network. Three will almost certainly attempt to put her on the £30 plan too, but I think she could actually pay less than she does now - so Three should really leave her alone!

Just posted this to my facebook page.

Dear friends.

Yesterday I received a letter with the saddest of news, it was truly a terrible day.

Over the years I have bored many of you to tears (especially on my last job) about my amazing unlimited everything + tethering mobile contract for £15 a month.

It is now, tragically, coming to the end. I will again be a mobile pleb like the rest.

RIP The One Plan.

My usage has dropped to next to nothing in recent months and I have not received a letter.

I'm certainly going to move to a 30 day plan that is the same or cheaper than £15 anyway (while I consider my options/wait for VO2 to improve), so they aren't going to get any more money out of me - and not really any more profit, either

It's difficult to figure out what to do. At home I hardly use any/minutes data and the data I do use is mostly because I don't even bother connecting my phone to the wifi.

However, when I work away (which I do a lot) the unlimited internet/tethering was a lifesaver. I didn't have to worry about stupid hotel internet. When work couldn't get broadband into our temporary flat last year I was the only person who didn't care and could actually get some work done. It's a big shame.

Even though I'm feeling like leaving out of spite (and the fact unlimited tethering has gone) I'm really not sure where else to go as the good deals I've enjoyed in the past seem to have dried up. I guess this is a result of the consolidation of all the UK operators. Sad times.

Im still on the one plan sim 15, no letters yet.
However if i do need to negotiate, how can I sign up for something like cashback?

As for the end of unlimited tethering, i dont suppose general web broiwsing without streaming would use a huge amount of data, and if any larger files need transfering/uploading/downloading it could always be downloaded to the phone as handset data then just copied to a computer

I haven't received my letter yet. I'm on the £18 one plan. I will need to stay with three for the AYCE data.

08/01/16-07/02/16 I have so far used 22.08GB, with 1.74GB of that being tethering. So for me, it looks as though three are my only option.

As a phone user I used less than 1GB a month on a Mobile with very few calls and texts, but was heading towards 15GB per month tethered, so when I got the push from the one plan I just put the phone back in its box and went over to a MBB contract. Having no ADSL (512k speeds here), MBB was my only option for streaming and although not a heavy internet user my monthly usage varied a lot and so I wanted to get a larger allowance to futureproof any changes in use.

I looked at Three MMB and was offered their (then newly introduced) 40GB deal for around £45 at the time, but was a bit annoyed to see Three in Ireland offering 60GB for 40 Euros, more data allowance and sold cheaper than 40GB the UK.

Even worse now as the 60GB MBB deal in Ireland is currently on offer for the first six months at 19.99 Euro's. So why can't they offer the same MBB deals in the UK?, there isn't even a 60Gb / Month offered.

I asked Three why Ireland has much better mobile MBB deals than the UK. They said that Three Ireland are a separate company to Three UK trading in a different country, so they have different plans.

and now the Daily mail has started to scream

"Mobile phone users' fury after Three doubles the cost of bills for hundreds of thousands of their longest serving customers from £15 to £30 a month

Network sent letters to those affected informing them of automatic change
Customers have 30 days to either choose another plan or leave Three
Company said it was phasing 'legacy' plans out, against wishes of users
Users vented fury by hijacking and ridiculing firm's #makeitright slogan

Consolidation is a very dirty word.

Also price matching competitors, i.e. less data, texts and minutes on offer at a much more expensive cost is terrible.

Just looking at the PAYG Bundles offered on the "MobileK" network that somebody here linked to previously.

http://mobilek.co.uk/bundles/

Whilst I doubt the Unlimited Data is truely unlimited or that any tethering is included, there doesn't seem to be anything obvious about a FUP for data use on the website. Does anybody have any experience of them?.

The website looks a bit dodgy to be honest! They will surely be a MVNO with a priority lower than a basement.. Three have AYCE handset data for £20 on PAYG and SO..

I may be wrong but from reading their website I think they are something to do with Kingdom Mobile (who run on EE), Kingdom have had bundles "Coming Soon" for over 12 months on their main website along with posts to their Social Networking promising that their bundles would go live in Summer 2015. Needless to say, they still haven't, nor have their Staff posted any further updates for several months

Clicking the "Buy Now" links on each bundle on the MobileK site, just takes you around in a Loop - no obvious way of buying anyway.

Wow. Seems wonderful, especially the National 10 package.

Yeah too good to be true - try clicking one of the "Buy Now" links on the bundles!

I guess its just some kind of holding site, not properly live or in operation yet.

Would be good, but my initial high hopes have vanished as fast as a Promise from '3'

In the APN settings it lists the MCC/MNC for a Kazakhstan mobile network so there's something a bit out.

From the "Can I use my existing number" FAQ on the MobileK website

Of course, transferring your existing mobile number to Kingdommboile is easy. Just follow the simple steps below:
• Contact the Customer Services of your existing provider, tell them you wish to change provider and ask them for your PAC code, check with them that there is no charge for this.
And yes the spelling mistake was on the actual website .

Seems Very Dodgy.

The media picked up on this last year as well.

But it didn't change anything.

Three are going to do what they're going to do and no one has a choice in the matter. This decision was made a long time back. In the OP I stated that the cause of concern was the summer 2013 over congestion issues, this was when Three actually made the decision.

In fact, since Three started to phase out 'The One Plan' they've actually seen an increase in subscribers. So......

Under that basis, they should also be dropping AYCE, tethering, unlimited minutes, unlimited texts - and they'll probably do that anyway.

We're moving towards a high price, low data sector to the point where price conscious consumers are going to have to consider dropping smartphones for dumbphones because data is going to become unviable unless you're well off. Even more galling when people overseas are getting a far better deal for data than what UK consumers are. As people move data habits to landlines and Wi-Fi, I expect prices to go up for broadband packages and line rental as those companies take advantage of the situation.

Consumers are the biggest losers of all this as providers step in unison to provide less data for a higher asking price.

I think the next step is indeed phasing out AYCE data. I'd be amazed if it wasn't, especially now we have 8 and 12GB plans.

All those cells and 4G rollout is of course free.
