This is on their website though. Not yet looked at BT mobile.”

BT have a 20GB plan but that doesn't include tethering. Whether they actively block it, or just say you can't do it, is another matter (I haven't tested it as I am not with BT).

Yes, Giffgaff is "Always On" meaning the first 6GB is not capped, and tethering allowed - after then you can't tether and are capped at 256k (that isn't enough to even stream the highest bitrate Tunein streams). Not that you'd want to tether on a 256k connection anyway.

Yes, that is so true.

At my home location, I was getting 0.5Mbps on Giffgaff 3G and 2Mbps on Giffgaff 4G on my latest tests.

The MBNL mast near my location gives 15Mbps.

I haven't got an O2 SIM to test but expect their own 3G to be a good 8-10Mbps from the same mast as GG.

I made three calls to Three today attempting to get a pac code hoping for a better offer. On call one I was getting more and more wound up being offered the same deal over and over and I kept asking for the code and I ran out of time and said I would try later.

On the second call I was promised a code but all the time the CS operative wanted to transfer me to sales! I asked to be put through to Glasgow but was told the only way was to ring 333 and choose the speak to a human and it would be a 50/50 gamble if I went through to India or the UK. I was told the pac could take 24 hours to generate and left it like that.
This afternoon I tried again and was told the pac generation had failed and they would try again and it could take 24/48 hours to generate. I will receive a call tomorrow afternoon to tell me what my pac code is if it has been generated by then.

I don't know if I want to be on a network where you have to beg a bunch of robots in India for everything. It's really pathetic having to spend hours of your time making calls to save a few quid.

For everyone who has received a good offer well done, you must be more tolerant or have not spoken to the same idiots I have in India.

I'm also tiring of listening to A-Ha and E17 on hold.

I wish Three would send me a purple muppet toy so I could horribly torture the damn thing.

You have to forget the word 'loyalty'. No large business values it. Loyalty is only important to small businesses because they need the customers more or go under.

My car insurance and pet insurance are up for renewal soon so today I spent the day doing research, starting with the companies I am currently with. As expected, and despite no claims, the best deals are for newbies so it will be goodbye from me.

Meanwhile I am still waiting for my 3 letter.

Yeah I changed my car insurance provider too because they had matched other quotes for the last 3 years, but not this year.

Basically, change to somebody else if you're not happy, Three are not making many offers of discounts and it's hard work if you want to try and get it cheaper, if you're willing to go through the motions you might get a discount, but if not just switch.

No letter for me yet, I'll be in a future batch I'm sure where all this will come flooding back again and we'll get the tissues out again and rock the pram, just like when the did the first batch of these 18 months ago and we've seen in batches ever since.

Why didn't you contact Three via web chat instead?

Loyally doesn't pay. Best thing most customers can do is leave. That would teach them a lesson in what happens when you poop on your customers.

Unlimited mins and data with 12gb tethering for £20. Saving of £10 per month.

I can live with this quite easily and in the big scheme of things the additional £5 is not the end of the world and 12gb tethering is more than enough.

If the offer sounds good I would just keep rejecting them until they offer this.

After there intial offer its best to get PAC and let them know that the offer above is what you want.

I would also ask to be put through to complaints dept so there is a registered complaint.

Then wait for there call. Keep rejecting but always mention what you want and will take or you will leave and they might finally then offer the above.

Good luck to all![/QUOTE]

The above worked for me. I have Unlimited mins not just 200. Its worth a shot.

They should at least offer unlimited mins with 8GB data on a 30 day rolling for £16. This is not bad if nothing else is offered but i think its worth trying the above process as you have nothing to lose.

I didn't even bother with that, I found a template letter and address on a blog, I modified the wording slightly to reflect the fact that I was essentially already on my 30 day notice period and to text / send me my PAC as their tariffs were no longer suitable. I also included a utility bill copy, and a copy of their original letter to me in order to prove my ID.

Took it to a post office in order to get Proof of Postage, a few days later my PAC was sent followed by a letter confirming the cancellation and what my final payment would be and when it would be taken.

Painless - no hanging around in a queue, then being passed around from person to person, no begging, no tired third rate scripted marketing b/s about how wonderful they are in their quest to "Make it Right".........

Of course its not going to help you if you want to field the better deal angle, but for anybody getting wound up about the thought of trying to get through and dealing with call centers and who has already made the decision to move on to another network then its the quickest, most effective solution. Worked well for me anyway.

Here is the template link, like I say you'll need to modify it a little, especially if you want your PAC.

Will that help though?! They seem to pad it out with lots of fake pleasantries. It's bad enough when I was trying to get the PAC I was discussing which iPhone I had and what colour it was....

Everyone is going to have to play the game on the phone I imagine. You'll be told that you can't speak to anyone else as they manage everything, and that they can't guarantee whether you'll speak to someone in India or Glasgow when you escalate. Maybe you'll get told the One Plan is now illegal, or that if they applied a discount they'd lose money...

It seems that you cannot ask to speak to a retentions team, as they claim there's no such thing. What there is instead is the customer relations team, that act as retentions, when you finally convince someone to let you speak to them.

Essentially you are made to make a complaint, which then escalates things and lo and behold, you can be transferred!

Clearly it's worth playing the gam, as unlike what Thine Wonk claims (in that you won't get anything and nobody can force them to do a deal) the reality is you will get something if you persevere, and you can force them because it seems they do want customers to stay.

Maybe Three is being more generous now following the media attention last weekend, who knows.. but nobody should be complaining. It's what Three should have done in the first place (i.e. offer a similar discount for an appropriate plan to lessen the shock of a £15 to £30 change in rental) and get rid of the unlimited tethering at the same time.

I thought I got a great deal, but clearly some people are getting the top package for the same discount which is even more impressive and I am glad people are getting this. I really do hope nobody is put off and decides to just go with the flow and pay the higher plan price.

I suspect an awful lot of people will. I can imagine my mum or dad just accepting things, although as yet I am not sure what people on a handset contract are getting asked for. I'd assume that being out of contract, they'd be transferred to a SIM only rate - so for these people, there might actually be a drop in rental that will make people think they're getting a great deal (hey, a price cut) even though it would be more than they really had to pay if they phoned up.

I am paying £41/month on contract but haven't yet had the letter as the 24 months isn't up until next month. None of the mobile networks normally drop down to a SIM-only rate when you are out of contract as they prefer to rely on your inertia not to notice that your contract is up & that you could reduce the price. Normally Three would be happy for me to keep on paying £41/month forever & certainly wouldn't bring it to my attention. If I was a heavy tethering user I might even be prepared to pay £41 to keep on the One Plan. However my use is pretty light & I could easily live within 12GB & 200 minutes. If I were interested in a new handset then EE has better offers & gives 20GB or 50GB tethering.

I would love to see what they offer you. If they're going to force you to change (as they will) then it must, in this case, be to a SIM only contract plan surely? In which case, the price may well come down.

Although I expect they may well write a different letter to encourage you to upgrade to a new handset and another 24 months, to keep paying a similar amount.

Best I've been offered is 600mins... 8gb data and unlimited texts ... £19.

Tried twice.....

I've been able to upgrade online since yesterday but the upgrade offers are pathetic & as far as I can see no different than i I were a new customer (possibly a £1 or £2 difference).

I may be misunderstanding the EE Complete offer but for a 128GB iPhone 6s Plus it's an upfront payment of £149 the £79.99/month for 50GB tethered data & unlimited minutes & texts, 1000 minutes overseas calls etc BUT you can upgrade the phone after 12 months keeping the same payment. So assuming that in 12 months that an iPhone 7 Plus costs about the same as an iPhone 6s Plus the numbers in round figures ignoring the pence are these:-

First year £150 + 12 x £80 = £1110
Second year £150 + 12 x £80 = £1110
Third year 12 x £80 = £960
Grand total £3180
BUT you get two top end iPhones valued at £789 each = £1578
So the SIM-only price is £44.50/month for 50GB tethering.

Vodafone offer 15GB 20 GB or 25GB plans with a contract phone & again all that data can be used for tethering.

Out of all the operators that offer tethering it seems that Three now offer the lowest amount of tethered data. To properly compare can someone explain how much Three charge for tethering if you go over the 12GB?

It's £5 for 1GB, and I think it has to be purchased as an add-on or something? Not entirely sure how it works, or indeed if I need to do anything to my phone settings (to have the 3PersonalHotspot APN) when I change plan next month.

I am also not sure if you can keep adding 1GB of tethering, as early on I believe there was a limit to just 1GB extra.

Doing the maths on the Complete tariff, it isn't too bad if you want to buy the top end Apple (or Samsung Galaxy) phone. It's worth remembering that when EU roaming charges are axed completely, that 50GB of data should be usable freely anywhere in the EU too. With EE offering no restrictions and 4G roaming, Three will have to seriously up its game. Feel at Home might be free in 18 destinations, but it is restricted - and 3G only.

Good advice.

It appears you need to raise a complaint. When doing this I ended up speaking to someone in the UK who I assume was part of the customer relations team. In the end I was offred 1 month rolling AYCE data, 600 mins, 2000 Three to Three for £17 plus an account credit of £10 for the hassle. That's the best I've had so far.

I forgot to ask about the Three to Three minutes! And I did remember that you can ask for that to be added on from what I read here ages ago.

£17 for that is incredible! Well done.

Not sure what the rules are about the free Three to Three mins but imost of my familly use Three in some form so it's useful for me. I was going to ask about it but the guy offered it before I even mentioned it I assume because it was part of the One Plan.

I'm glad I terminated the contract on my Galaxy S5 early (would have been finishing mid April 2016).

I was paying £37/month for 300mins, unlimited data and 2gb tethering, but phoned up (I think it was boxing day and paid £96 to finish the contract early and be moved to a £19/month (with £1 discount each month taking it to £18) 12 month contract with 200mins, unlimited data/texts, 12gb tethering, and loads of Three to Three calls.

I was happy with that deal as don't really use the mins or the tethering that much and if I find I do start running up the mins then I can just make WhatsApp calls to people instead.

At least it's only a £1 discount per month on the new contract so it's not too much to easily take away if they do want to increase the price.

Also I worked out that it cost me around £20 to finish the contract early as I saved on the £37/month (by paying £18/month instead) I would have been paying for 3 or 4 months.

Maybe I got it too! In one month, I made 2 minutes of off net calls and some 140 odd Three-to-Three calls.

But as the overall is well below 600 and likely always will be, I don't really need them. Maybe something to argue for when they try and change my plan again in 30 days time.

I shifted my OH’s 3 sim to another network last September and just contact support via e-mail and surprise, surprise they sent me the PAC code the next day via email and it just said on it, sorry your leaving us but here’s your PAC code.

Can’t be sure if this is the page I use as it’s for contract and mine was PAYG but I can’t see any other so probably was...

http://www.three.co.uk/Support/Cancel_contract

Update...
Just run that page and it takes you to web-chat so it’s not this one, maybe I just sent it to a support email page like a shot in the dark but it worked but I can’t remember as I didn’t expect it to work.

Despite this being a three thread what networks and tariffs are people changing too?

It seems to me EE 6GB at £24 p/m

BT (if customer) 20GB at £20 p/m

I'm a BT customer, but i have no idea what limitations BT mobile has, speed caps, full access to 4G etc.

My usage is actually around 2-4GB per month practically all handset data but for 1 month of the year i go to 18-24GB where the majority is tethering.

I went with three because they were a cheap network that cared about data and the two were a winning combination.

Now they are a similar price to more advanced networks so really i don't see the point in staying. I am considering BT, cheap and plenty of data. Just a shame i can't tether.

Who are people moving to?

The three retention deals are just a minefield, luck of the draw and really i don't fancy staying with a company who decides to double the price of my contract.

One of my key considerations is the ability to stop bill shock. I've been stung in the past with things like premium rate text scams or accidental spend and like the option to stop out of allowance charges. I think BT mobile offers some type of cap but last time I asked EE it didn't. Also I use InTouch but don't think EE provides a smilar app that can work on pretty much any phone or didn't when I asked.

Whilst I'm pissed at Three in the end it still offered the best package/features for my need by some margin so I didn't want to cut my nose off to spite my face.
