And as Federation President Barry Fife says, "You can dance any steps you like. But it doesn't mean you'll win."

On a serious note, I'd be gobsmacked if there is complete unanimity across the dance world as to all matters of detail, so you're probably both right!

MY Twopenneth is over all the technique books which are used to qualify as a professional not one suggests the lady is ever anything but a cape - I suppose what a dancer decides to be is up to them but to be technically right it has to be the cape

Can't argue with the technique books!

I could quote lots and lots of sites (including Iveta's site at Arthur Murray and Oxford University dancesport) but will just quote the following:

http://www.danielcalloway.com/wp/wp-...troduction.pdf

Plus this article on the WDC education site:
http://wdced.com/2012/10/the-paso-do...arianka-swain/

I understand that there are aesthetic/interpretive differences and why lots of people strongly believe that it is wrong for a woman to play the role of the bull or to interpret the dance literally (I actually agree with these arguments), but it is not a black and white argument and should not be presented as such.

There are also a few sites which say the follower is never the bull, just to add balance.

Thankyou!

I'm sure most have realised by now that those in charge of SCD haven't a clue about ballroom and latin and what is worse, neither do they seem to care, otherwise we would not have such totally inappropriate music for a lot of the dances nor such idiotic themes, gimmicks etc .

Realisation dawned on me around series 4 that the least important thing on SCD is the dance but even worse now is the props and gimmicks and of course the music - I feel over DWTS (over several countries) and SCD musisc choices are very similar (especially between SCD and DWTS usa ) the common denominator seems to be JG wonder if he has a hand in the music choices? he spends alot of timein Florida too at the busch Garden production of BTF wonder if that is why a lot of disney tunes
