Santa was convincing Clara he was real. Two elves looked on (played by Nathan McMullen from "Misfits" and Dan "Strax" Starkey) as Santa told Clara he was real and questioned why she'd stopped believing in fairytales. As he finished speaking, the TARDIS appeared and the Doctor burst out, told Clara it was real that he was there and was back and to get into the TARDIS. He and Santa did not seem to get on as the Doctor told Santa he knew what was going on. Santa suggested the Doctor would need his help before the night was out. The Doctor insulted Santa by wishing him "Happy Easter" and got back into the TARDIS. No title seemed forthcoming.

So the Christmas special is going to tell all the kids that's Santa's a faritytale is it? They're really moving away from the target audience!

I'm not sure I'll watch the Christmas special having seen that.

Well I will, because I love Nick Frost.

Maybe I just thought it was bad because of the truly terrible presenting by Daly and Wogan?

Why didn't they show the whole episode?

Well, no, not if Santa is actually there. He's telling Clara not to think of him as just a fairytale. He asks her who she thought put her presents out and she replies her parents. He asks the logic of her parents just randomly giving her a big stack of presents for one day each year and she perhaps realises there's more to it.

I'm not sure where they're going with this, but I think the look the Doctor gave Santa means this is perhaps an alien menace masquerading as Father Christmas. They'll never give the definitive word on his existence in the show, but I predict a coda where something 'magical' happens like presents appearing or a Christmas miracle and the only explanation would be that the real Santa is out there...

Just the opposite - Clara thought it was a fairytale: the Doctor and "Santa" know it's real. Benevolent or malevolent we don't know yet.

How can you think the clip was bad because of what was on before it?! Surely that made the clip look better? The Beeb have been doing that for years! CF Don't Scare the Hare, Hole in the Wall etc etc etc!

I was still in the throes of groaning aloud at Tel's "jokes" or "puns" or whatever they were, so my reaction to the DW clip was coloured by depression at the abysmal standard of BBC TV before it started.

Actually I thought the clip was poor. My remarks about Tel and Cat were an attempt to give DW the benefit of the doubt.

I was also remembering nostalgically the sketches of yesteryear.

Regarding the use of Santa, I can hear Sgt Wilson saying 'Do you think that's wise?'

Can you hear Moffat saying "Believe me, I'm a pretty shrewd judge of character"?

To be honest, he would be more believable. And I'm an Athiest!

The fact the Doctor was off with Santa and told Clara to get in the Tardis surely shows that they are not going down the Santa is real route, plus Santa was spikey back to the Doctor, so its hardly cuddly good father Christmas, there's something more going on.

An episode that dealt with the whole Jesus thing or at least brought him up would be good. Maybe a companion could ask to go back in time and see Jesus and the Doctor could respond in a flippant manner saying yeah sure and after that shall we go to New York and see if Spiderman is real.

Though they wont touch on the Jesus issue as it will be deemed to controversial. Shame religion still has that hold even on sci fi shows that don't describe to such beliefs.

Obviously no indicator of the episode itself, but I can't say I'm particularly psyched for this. Not a huge fan of Nick Frost at any rate, and there's just something about all this that isn't captivating me. The elves reminded me a little of the two robots from Dinosaurs on a Spaceship for some reason - I didn't like them either.

Such a negative opinion, and this is me not being a humbug!

Hopefully the episode itself will be okay. I think I just got myself psyched up after some teasing hints of 'a Frosty Christmas' on Twitter before Nick Frost was announced, and I'd hoped the show was going to explore the Jack Frost myth...which is a far more interesting angle for the show as far as I'm concerned

Looks good from that clip, but based on the amount of times a Moffat clip/trailer has made an episode look good and then the episode has turned out to be terrible, I don't really get excited by any clips or trailers any more.

Moffat's best christmas special by far was a christmas carol for me, I found it absolutely perfect in every way, and I just hope that this episode can get back to that standard. Oh, and the other thing I want from the episode is to actually properly be Clara's last.

The Doctor has mentioned taking the last room at the Inn (forcing Mary and Joseph to spend the night in the Stable).

Quote:
“ASTRID: This Christmas thing, what's it all about?
DOCTOR: Long story. I should know, I was there. I got the last room.”

And brings up Easter another time.

Quote:
“ DOCTOR: The funny thing is, I don't often do Easter. I can never find it. It's always at a different time. Although I remember the original. Between you and me, what really happened was....”
