Unlocking and software updates

Hi all

I think I already know the answer but I just want to clarify.

As I'm near the end of my contract with o2 I'll be asking for a sim unlock code just like I did the other year. Now once I can use any network sim will I be able to update the phone's software without having to wait for o2?
I'm thinking that the answer is no but like I said I'd like some more informed opinions on the subject.

Cheers Tom

Unlocking the phone doesn't change the fact it's still an O2 phone (for software customisation).

If you have an Android device have a look at XDA Developers, there might be other firmware and instructions on DIY updating for your phone.

I thought as much.
Thanks for the clarification.
