That's non-UK, it's French (and part of Currys).
Sony and Panasonic are still far ahead of LG and Samsung, particularly in manufacturing quality and quality of service.
Panasonic are hobbled to only work in one country instead of the whole EC and customer service won't help if you take it elsewhere.

Sony also have bad customer service. Just look at the ongoing problems with 4Music, RT etc.

Best advice, avoid both.

I don't really see the problem?, you buy your TV in the country you wish to use it.

One of your most stupid ideas - ignore the two best made sets with the best service - at least Sony seem to be doing 'something' about 4Music keep altering their system.

I don't like very bright TV's and the THX setup on Star Wars etc will turn all the settings right down.

You should have modes pre built in and play about for best settings, film mode is usually quite dark................ like THX

Anyway with HD broadcasts I don't think you need so many modes nowadays

I like watching kids channels to guage the Picture Quality with modern cartoons.

Kids just will not watch rubbish, and the tv can show off all the garish colours to its splendid pleasure.

However its all Personal Settings and Personal Choice!

As long as it has Freeview HD, 100 hz screen, 1080p screen and plenty HDMI connections, then you will be fine

Some people live near international borders and like to receive programmes from both countries.

Why is it that only Sony appears to have problems with 4Music?

Just played a Blu Ray on the TV and its really detailed surprised the buttons on the TV remote actually control my Samsung Blu Ray player to when on.
Don't think my other LG did this.

It's called CEC - developed by Sony and Panasonic - however, it's a 'mixed blessing'

Just take the money, you are not obliged to spend it on something else in store. Certainly not an HDM cable as you can get them in the 99p shop, unless of course they will match that price. Extended warranties are a waste of money, and can certainly be bought cheaper from an insurance company.

Spot on!

TV's are turned up to look good in bright showrooms. The first thing you should always do is take a THX film disc, go to the extras and run the THX setup.

It sometimes takes a few days to get used to the reduction in brightness. But when you do, you realise you're paid back with better blacks and more detail in darker areas / indoor dim scenes.

Whilst not entirely untrue, it's completely (and presumably deliberately?) misleading.

A shop environment is far brighter than a home one, so TV's have special 'shop display' modes, and the option to select this is given during installation. For home install you select 'home' and avoid the excessively bright 'shop' mode.

If you want it darker than the manufacturers suggested 'home mode', then turn it down - but supposed 'alignment' (usually at great expense) is setting it to someone else's idea of they THEY like it - rather like someone else setting how loud the volume is for you.

It's YOUR set, YOUR choice, YOUR personal settings, set it how YOU like it to be.

Samsung £549 http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/tv-dvd-...pdt.html#cat-0

Pansonic £419 http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/tv-dvd-...pdt.html#cat-0

Panasonic £525 http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/tv-dvd-...74707-pdt.html

http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/tv-dvd-...pdt.html#cat-0 LG £499

that's the ones I would be looking at.

If you buy in a shop in uk, you can see them in the shop !!!!!!!!!!!!
I've been looking at that SAMSUNG for my Father. He's not interested in the 3D or any of the smart TV functions. Just wants to watch his Sky sports and a few films on it. He also liked the look of this SONY, Nigel time for you to shine..
Has anyone got either and can give an honest opinion of it? He's upgrading from an old Toshiba CRT that could anchor the Ark Royal if required....

Either would look MUCH better than an antique Toshiba CRT set

Obviously Sony are better made than Samsung, and if he's not wanting 3D (who does?) or 'SMART' (not quite as useless as 3D ) then I know which I'd go for.

Well, I somehow knew which one you would choose... However, I'm not sure it's the better of the two for his sport. I'm willing to be convinced, I don't want him to have the hassle of returning the set etc, if it's not good enough.
I was hoping someone had direct experience with both or either of them....
I'm leaning toward the Sony for him, even though I'm a Sammy fan.
