I see Bob Geldof is doing a Band Aid 30 for Christmas.....i.e another redo of the song but with Ed Sheerin, One D and so on. In aid of Ebola

Here's an idea....as welll as that, why not also redo the song as first was, and with as many of the original artists as possible coming back to do it again now, and maybe one or two other 80s names. Mostly same backing track but maybe souped up a bit in a retro electro way.

So 30 years later you'd have two 'Band Aids'.....the 80s guys vs the new guys.....battling it out with X Factor for Christmas Number 1.

I really like that idea but realistically how many of the 80's cast are still around or still sound good?

Pretty much all of them. 80s retro gigs and roadshows are still huge. And anyway, it would be fun to find out with a re-recording and a chart battle....and a lot of money for charity!

I know they are writing some new lines but couldn't they come up with a new song. I loved the song at first but now I am sick of it.

I wonder if the intentions of the artists who'll be taking part in this Band Aid are as genuine as the intentions of those who took part in the original.

What "intentions"?

All of the participants will be giving their time for free and all royalties will go to charity.

If you mean that they're trying to gain publicity from taking part in the recording, I don't see how that would work anyway. For example, people are not going to suddenly become a One Direction fan or Elbow fan etc just because they're part of Band Aid 30.

I don't know, it'll showcase them to a wider audience who may not follow the current music scene but will be aware of this song due to its greater significance.

Present day artists - or, to be more accurate, the vast teams who work them - are so obsessed with their self image and on that basis, you can guarantee that everyone who gets asked to take part in this will be told how good they'll look in the public eye if they do.

What's the point? What is the point? A significant number of governments of countries in this continent are incapable of looking after their citizens or using the vast resources at their disposal for the benefit of the people.

Reconolisation by Europeans is the answer to Africa's problems.

Maybe should have put that in GD or politics but the endless Africa appeals is tiresome.

Will the money made for Band Aid 30 actually help the Ebola crisis or will it just go into the back pockets of the countries and government's officials?

I hope it is better than the last version, and that they DON'T have a rap in it.

The Original raised £8 million and still didn't help. I remember when Sir Bob came on TV and banged on the table.

At least he's doing something positive which costs him too make although the stars are doing it for free. Hope we see the video of them all turning up like the original. Original is the best, but nice to have an updated version. Sir Bob has also had a tragedy in his life losing his daughter too.

I admire both Sir Bob and Midge for this.

*Bangs on table*. Agreed !!

Hence, I for one will NOT be wasting 99p on said song and will instead be putting the money towards my gas bill... or a multipack of crisps.. probably.

Didn't she turn up, out of the blue, uninvited?
