He'll never be what he was sadly. Some rappers have the ability to stay pretty cool but I just don't think he can do it.

Yeah, he's sold way more records than Lana Del Rey. Which makes it perfectly fine for him to talk about assaulting her. Obviously.
And he's done it in the span of 15 years with the majority of them being sold BEFORE Itunes got big, most of those sales are physical copuies, not people clicking on an Itunes link. The amount he has done in such a short space of time is truly amazing. |

When you have sold literally HUNDREDS of millions of albums and singles and the kind of money he has, you can pretty much do what you want.

Well, you're wrong. There is no competition between him and many of these current artists that this forum is drooling over. Record sales speak volumes.

I also assume, given the nature of your argument here, that it wouldn't be acceptable for him to do this is he had sold far fewer records. |

The word choice doesn't make it sound powerful & full of hate. Just said as reference. If he added, "Then stamp on her, while I sing her songs back to her *add further insult here* - Then I would question the nastiness of it.

hazydayz, with the amount of times you are dropping his sales stats at us are you trying to convince us of Eminem's brilliance or yourself? As you say he sold most of his output not only prior to iTunes, but prior to internet piracy becoming so dominant. On top of that he comes from an age when the music media (be it TV or print) were much more powerful and could market him far more effectively.
It is therefore pretty inevitable his sales dwarf most of today's artists. Also since when did sales alone ever = greatness or meritocracy? By that logic 1D, Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift the genius song smiths of our era. Hell isn't there a stat that says popular mime act Cheryl Co-- sorry Fenadez-Vercini is THE most successful UK female act on no.1 hit singles or something? As for the topic of this thread I wasn't even going to bother comment at first. Eminem trolling a popular female singer with threats of violence to get his name in the headlines? Not like he's ever done that before eh!? Indeed being cynical about this you don't think maybe Interscope (who both artists are signed to) might have put him up to it get both their names out there? Hint hint? ![]() If it was a genuine vocal diss it seems pretty misguiding attacking Lana. She's admitted she was a fan of his music when she was younger and she's one of the darker artists going in today's music scene- i.e. something you would have thought Eminem himself might have appreciated. What happened to the Eminem that used to attack the establishment and the cheesy pop acts? Oh sorry, he is the establishment and a cheesy pop act himself now. I suspect the only reason he mentioned Lana in those lyrics is because he rapping skills are now so lazy the only words he could get to rhyme with "Ray Rice" was "Lana Del Rey." God he's lost it. Badly. I'll give Eminem full cred for his early output, I liked him back then. You could put up with his misogynistic ranting twaddle back in the day because he combined it with humour, clever word play, wit and intelligence. Plus he vaguely had a point with his targets. All of that is gone now from his recent output. Now he's just like some sad old embarrassing Grandad with a mind slowly wasting away with dementia whilst pissing himself repeatedly all day. And remains sat in that piss whilst his old buddy Dr Dre is also too equally senile to point out he really needs to change those stinky old pants now. Dre could do with a change too, lots of plop sploshing around his rear end. But I think he's making too much money out of selling overpriced headphones to notice. Eminem is a classic example of an act that said everything he had to say at the start of his career. Presumably he made more money than he'll ever need. Yet he continues to stick around sounding even more bored of himself than the listener is. The biggest irony of all is that despite all his macho posing that he remaining idiot fan base seem to lap up, it could be argued he owes the success of his later career down to teaming up with a female singer, Rihanna. Love the way you lie was a really great song...or at least it was when you listened to Rihanna's version without his sh*tty rapping on it. |

I don't think any of you know what a Cypher is. Eminem, as part of Shady Records has been doing these for a few years now. The label is celebrating it's 15th year since Shady Records was set up in 1999. The reason the cypher was done was to promote the 2 disc album which is out in a few weeks. That's all it was. It was done for promotion only. None of what was said means anything, it was a showcase if you will, a showcase of skill just like all the other people signed to Shady Records did. The only reason it would have been said is because lyrically it is skillful and also the topic is relevant. There's nothing personal behind any of it.
And a lot of you are right about Eminem. Eminem has made fun of himself for years now, he openly talks about the fact that he has nothing new to talk about and why there are fans who no longer listen to him because of that. They still want him to be the depressed homeless guy with no prospects they knew in 1998. The truth of the matter is his net worth is well over $100. You also talk about him attacking cheesy pop acts. What would that achieve now? Like i said in the previous paragraph, he isn't poor anymore, he isn't homeless trying to raise his daughter, he's made up with his ex wife and his Mother. His net worth is over $150 million. Your Ed Sheerans of the world aren't gonna get that kind of money so what is the point in him talking about them? It's like bullying someone. There's no competition, there's no equal. Infact what about the Taylor Swift album? Wasn't that the highest weeks sales since Eminem's 2002 album The Eminem Show? They key word being 'since', since it never actually sold more than the Eminem Show in it's first week. A 2014 artist got close to record sales that an album 12 years ago did?! 12 years ago! 2002. CDs. Cassette tapes. Vinyl. Cassette tapes were still being sold then! Broadband internet was still a new thing back then. Dr Dre is worth over a billion dollars. Go and look the numbers up. Look at what he has made from those Beats headphones. I'm not trying to convince myself of anything or anyone else here of anything. What I'm saying is, is that Eminem is one of a handful of artists/bands in the world ALIVE just now that can pretty much say and do what they want and they will still sell millions of records. When you have a man that has sold literally hundreds of millions of singles and albums in a 15 year period, the majority of them being sold before broadband internet was common and before Itunes even existed, they tend to be something special. And it's not like a Elton John or Beatles or a Madonna where hundreds of millions of records are spanned across 20, 30, 40 years. Eminem done it in less than 15. I don't even think Mariah Carey sold as much as Eminem did in her first 15 years selling records. Infact I'd go as far as saying not many have infact go look here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of..._music_artists Eminem has outsold Bon Jovi, Taylor Swift, Garth Brooks, Billy Joel, Barry White, Aerosmith, Neil Diamond, Frank Sinatra, Rihanna, even FLEETWOOD MAC! He's at the top of the list and some of them have been kicking around for 30 years! He done it all in 15 years with the majority out of it outside Itunes and the internet. 30 years of Fleetwood Mac, 40 years of Frank Sinatra couldn't do what he done in 15 of them. I don't think you people on this forum realise just what a big deal he is and why many in the industry have said numerous times over the years that Interscope Records is the house Eminem built. What that means is Lana Del Rey means nothing. Ed Sheeran is nothing. Cheryl Cole is nothing. They mean nothing to a man who is top of that list of best selling list of 120 million to 199 million records sold. There's no point in fans getting annoyed or upset or putting him down because Lana Del Rey WILL NEVER SELL 150 MILLION RECORDS IN HER LIFE IF SHE LIVES TO BE 100 YEARS OLD. She's just not good enough. Basically if you look at that list, Eminem is 16th top seller of all time. There are 15 above him, some alive, some dead. The only people that have the right to call him out on anything are those 15 above him. They are his equals. They are on his pay scale. They have the same kind fo fanbase as him, not some wannabee girl in her 20's like Lana Del Rey and her fans that are clingy and trying to find their identity in the world like the Lady Gaga fans. Quite literally, and the numbers don't lie, and the sales figures in 2 weeks wont lie either, artists like Eminem and Dr Dre are above the music industry. They can say and do whatever they want, they have the sales figures and bank balances to prove it. No amount of fans crying and throwing insults will change that. Instead fans should use that as inspiration because how many of you here have money to play with? That means you don't live hand to mouth every week? Do any of you have kids? Do you give them a nice life? That's what your aim should be. Work hard, get money, get security, if you have kids give them the best life you can. Take note from these artists you love and also hate. Go out and live life instead of sitting on internet forums all day and badmouthing multi millionaires, people with lifes you can only dream of having, all because they dared to go out and live a dream. |

I think the lyrics are disgusting and I do not think I'm easily offended.
I've reached the end of my tether when it comes to the media's promotion of the glorification of violence against women. Even when the violence is fictional, the message sent out is appalling. |

guess you werent around on the internet from 1999-2002, eminems music was all over napster and other big filesharing sites and normally the top of the pirate list. It is therefore pretty inevitable his sales dwarf most of today's artists. Also since when did sales alone ever = greatness or meritocracy? Really, really messed up argument - but I'd find it funny if Celine Dion came out and said they'd like to 'rip Eminem's balls off and force feed them to him' - he'd have to take it too as he's not in their pay scale, according to the 'power' list... |

And the comment that people are over reacting because they don't know what a cypher is is a little daft. A lot of people arn't going to know what one is, or that he wasn't being serious. He is seen as a role model to some peole (partly due to the number of records he has sold) and he should think before he makes comments like this. |
