We've got an "ATE" brand telly which I brought back from Hong Kong.
The telly, itself, is still in perfect condition, and serves it's purpose perfectly, but the remote is getting a bit manky.

Seems like most of the replacement remotes I've seen while casually browsing on eBay tend to be the ones where you type in a manufacturers code and I've never found one of those which lists "ATE" as one of the compatible brands.

Anybody know of a decent replacement remote that is a proper "learning" one, so I can program it button by button or uses some other system which'll allow it to replicate a less well-known brandof TV remote?

Ideally, I'm not after something super-technical, with LCD touch-screens and all that stuff.
It'd be nice but I fear it'd frighten the missus.

Something from the Harmony range would be my first recommendation, even if your device is not listed you can still add it via its learning capabilities.

If you want to keep the cost down have a look on EBay, you could pick up something like the Harmony 650 for around £20, its even got an LCD screen.

The Harmony range starts from around £25 with the 350...

my new toy is a Harmony One remote, which controls pretty much anything I have that has a remote control, but as you state, you dont want one thats all super high tech with touch screens.

In saying that, my missus isnt super technical and she picked up how to use it in 5 minutes. Admittedly theres a million options you can select on the setting up the remote, but once you have done that, its childs play.
