It's pretty difficult, if not impossible, to maintain the correct movement of the Strictly dances if you wear glasses.

So, if you're a celeb who needs to wear glasses and you can't wear contacts, does that mean you are excluded from being invited onto the show ? I can't recall anyone ever wearing glasses during a performance unless they were a prop for the dance.

Seems to me that would exclude a lot of potentially great celebs for the show.

I dance and I wear glasses whilst doing so. Im not up to the standard of some of the Strictly dances but have managed to get up to Gold standard ok.

I don't think wearing glasses should preclude celebrities.

Didn't Greg say that he had just done his dance without glasses - couldn't see the judges or some such?

I'd have thought you'd have to have really horrific eyesight before you couldn't manage with your glasses off. As long as you can see where your partner is when you need to make contact - even if what you see is a bit of a smudge - I would think you'd be OK.

Ricky Groves wore his glasses on at least one occasion.

Surely if you have well fitting glasses, something like a waltz is perfectly possible?
Something bouncy with a quickstep might need the specs adjusted to hold firmly.

Full on upside down lifts might dislodge them, but you can get straps to hold them on for sailing and skiing !

I wonder how they manage to keep them on.

May be why he got so few votes. No one recognised him.

A snug fit sounds like the way to go, please thank your dad for his answer.

I sometimes wonder if the judging panel would benefit from a trip to the opticians.

Matt wore prop glasses

Quite a few of the Pro's wear glasses - Vincent often wore his for training and on ITT but always had them off the main show. I've seen Flavia wearing hers once or twice, and Darren Bennett wore them in training too. Contact lenses must be the norm for most celebs on television, as you see lots of them in newspaper photos out and about wearing prescription glasses.

I'm interested as to why you seem sure one can't dance wearing glasses?

Iveta did a pretty energetic jive on the results show with specs.

So would I

The little lad from Diversity, Perri Kiely, that won Splash this year wears glasses and they threw him all over the place. I assume he had them tied on somehow under all that hair, but didn't seem a problem for him.

I know Pixie wears contact lenses. I'm not sure if any celebs or pros would wear glasses on the main show, but they often do in training.

If I can manage to keep my glasses on whilst riding stomach churning & twisting roller coasters, keeping them on during a dance should be a doddle. I have a brilliant neoprene strap that fits over the arms to keep glasses securely on my face.

I've always danced in glasses. Properly fitting they are absolutely fine.

Upside down lifts might just be a problem mind, but contacts are available.

For the deeply unfortunate - which is probably me in about five years, then contacts AND glasses might have to be worn.

They are then functionally disabled. And no, Strictly celebs can't be in a wheelchair either - sad, but true, and that's just that.

Sound like a plan

My teacher made me do a foxtrot with my eyes shut once and it actually went better than when I've got contacts in. I personally prefer to dance without my glasses on. If I couldn't wear contacts I'd just take off the glasses and be a little bit blind.

You can't do a Milonguero-Style (close embrace) AT wearing glasses. The heads and cheeks are locked 100% of the time and glasses would hurt you partner.

So my glasses are slipped in my right hip pocket and hers in my left hip pocket, embrace and off we go.

Though I have never thought of removing glasses for Salsa.

I can't cross the road without glasses.

I'm sorry but that's just completely incorrect!

I dance and wear glasses and it has no effect whatsoever on my posture, movement, technique etc in either ballroom or Latin.

Where on earth did you get the idea that it has such an effect? I can't see the logic at all!

Have you ever done a cartwheel during a Waltz? Swung from a trapeeze during a Cha Cha Cha?
