That American Smooth was incredible - Janet is an amazing choreographer. Surprised it did not get a 10. It was better than Frankie's Quickstep, Just my opinion.

I watched it three times on iPlayer. I have no idea what AS is meant to look like but the atmosphere was gripping.

A bit more theatrical than American Smooth- I would have scored it down for that, but if that had been a freestyle, I would have forgone my soap "star" prejudices and scored it very highly indeed...

1) Her name is spelt Janette.

2) I agree it was better than Frankie's Quickstep, though I still think Frankie is a better dancer, she just had an underwhelming week.

I thought Janette was very clever with her choreography, bringing out the theatrical elements rather than making it a traditional Fred & Ginger style AS. Reminded me of Aliona's gamble with Matt's AS, which I loved (though am well aware a lot of people hated!) and Kara & Artem's as well.

I thought it was a pretty clever concept and like Henry, would describe it as 'gripping'.

The AS, as Strictly defines it, is totally invented for the show, so very open to interpretation by the individual choreographers. I thought this was an interesting and reasonably well executed take on it.

I really enjoyed the dance, but thought it was more a showcase for Janette than Jake.

Janet is amazing. Jake just seems to stand around. Sorry but I just don't see what other people do in him.

As an American Smooth, it was pretty dire, non recognisable. The clue is in the same of the dance. Far too hectic for my tastes, AS should be smooth with seamless transitions in and out of hold. Far to over marked in my opinion.
I feel Jake is a bit of a one trick pony, the only dances he seems to excel in, is where the music or choreo is " mean and moody" so Janette can choreograph to those strengths.
If however, this was freestyle or a showdance, it would have been fabulous.

Nice to see that he wasn't in his usual character as an agressive pyscho/ axe killer/hardman.................................................... Oooops, my mistake, he was.

Wish he'd bloody cheer up, he seems to take himself so seriously.

All the Londoners with Exx post codes voting for him presumably

He doesn't seem to be able to rustle up any enthusiasm for the show and it shows in his dances.

Frankie's QS was too shambolic, was surprised to see getting such praise from the judges. Oh, sorry, forgot she is the judges pet this year

I think he is enthusiastic for the show, but his miserable and morose demenour is as far as he gets with showing it !!

Having no technician knowledge at all I can say I just enjoyed what I saw. The only thing I would say is I wish Janette - or whoever is responsible for the choreography - would remember he is an actor so there is more to him than his Eastenders character. So many of their dances just seem to reflect that.

Whether it was a good American Smooth or not I do not know as I have no dance experience/technical knowledge, I just like what I enjoy watching and I enjoyed watching Jake and Janette's dance.

Is there though, in terms of acting prowess? He seems to only like playing the mean, moody character - when they went light-hearted for the jive there wasn't as much performance value in the routine, and he wasn't exactly giving off a huge party vibe in their salsa either. And last week their rumba didn't really have much passion in it at all!

I'm getting the impression that mean and moody is what he does well, so Janette is basically forced to keep that theme going on if she wants their dances to get scores that will keep them with the leading pack.

I think my comment was 'intense'.

His dancing wasn't outstanding but certainly the performance made good use of his acting skills.

I've watched it back (and all other dances), a couple of times now and it was far from an American Smooth.
Janette was very cleaver; she did the majority of the dancing and stunts along with the backing dancers while Jake moved from one place to another ready to be in place for the climaxes of each.
If you isolate Janette and the backing dancers, Jakes did little dancing and more moving into place and catching and a lot of his moves were quite jerky .

There was nothing smooth about Jake's dancing.....dancing by numbers.
