Would have been even better had it been danced with a Spanish theme with the correct music.

I loved it, even with the mash up. The music in particular I loved.

Bound to have been! Maybe it's a reversal of that saying about people fiddling while Rome burned. Rome was playing gladiator games while the rest of the world fought martians?

I mean, I don't think dressing either Pixie or Trent as a martian from War of the Worlds would have improved matters*. I really enjoyed the dance but I'm pretty sure Trent ignored the War of the Worlds story entirely (wisely IMO - that's not a plot that condenses well into a 90second paso) and someone on the production side just gave them vaguely futuristic gladiator costumes because... I don't know... pasos involve fighting, gladiators fight and Steve already dressed as a matador last week? At least they looked more comfortable than poor Ashley did in his cowboy outfit last year.

*I just looked it up to check if I'd remembered correctly and Wikipedia picks out the following quotes about the martians: "big" and "greyish" with "oily brown skin", "the size, perhaps, of a bear", with "two large dark-coloured eyes", and a lipless "V-shaped mouth" that drips saliva, surrounded by "Gorgon groups of tentacles." I'll just... leave that as a thought for what could have happened if someone had really wanted a War of the Worlds themed paso.

I thought it was great (for the most part the show was for a change) and the mash up didn't bother me but I didn't think some of the staging worked as well as some of the others, as in the two gladiators being annoyingly in front of Pixie and Trent on occasion.

Thought it was fab - my favourite dance of the night. Loved the bonkers camp fusion of themes, too Liking these two more each week.

Agree the extras got in the way.

I'm confused why they chose a War of the Worlds song with a Gladiator theme, but in terms of the dance itself, it worked! If I didn't know where the song came from, I wouldn't have had much of an issue with it, and it was, technically, superb!

I have to agree. I like that music but the theme and costumes didn't work for me. Maybe they didn't know what the music was!

If they wanted a Gladiator theme they should have used some of Hans Zimmer's magnificent score for Gladiator. It would have worked well for a paso.

I absolutely hated it, I couldn't get past the track and the costumes. The whole thing was drowned into a sea of shiny bird poop and piped music. The dancing was probably great though.

I hated it.

I have always been scared of War of the Worlds. I remember being terrified of it when it was in the charts when I was about 5 and I am now 41 and only have to hear it "the chances of anything coming from Mars are million to one!" and I get freaked. Seriously.

To be fair, the country we call 'Spain' nowadays was part of the Roman empire (and the character Maximus in Gladiator was called 'Spaniard' because he came from that region).

I can find no explanation for the fact that the paso was danced to a piece of music inspired by fictional inter-planetary warfare...

I enjoyed it.

That said, I also enjoyed Jake's American Smooth, which reminded me, at times, of the Broadway Melody ballet section in Singing in the Rain. With a salsa swing throw

I enjoyed that too.

It was an amazing paso and absolutley fitting for the theme. I mean a gladiator theme works for a paso, so the theme wasn't a problem. Or can anybody tell me why this should be an ill-fitting theme. Trent and Gordana cheographed absolutley wonderful and Pixie nailed it.

Lovely dance. Lovely performance ruined by costumes.

I don't remember any sort of outcry when Kevin and Frankie mixed genres earlier in the season. Is it all right for them, but not for Pixie?

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, of course. Mine is that the pair of them looked stunning, and the dance was wonderful.

A gladiator paso is fine. Personally I thought the costumes were tacky but I know some people liked them.

None of it went with music Were they alien gladiators?

I have watched it without the music and she dances beautifully as always, despite the pleather, but as it a whole package it was awful.

Oh, by the way, in 'Apocalypse Now' the helicopters attacked the Viet Cong to the strains of 'The Ride of the Valkyries'. That is just as big a mix of genres. Again, I don't recall any complaints.

Excellent dancing and choreography. Not at all sure about the costumes and music.

Apart from Trent's trousers it worked for me.

A Roman Paso with rock music was so absurd that I FFW'd.

You missed a brilliant dance then.

Thought that the music was a brilliant idea for a Paso. I do love that War of the Worlds and that theme in particular.

The dance was dramatic, and well choreographed and brilliantly executed. Not so sure about Trent's costume though and felt that that let the whole down.

Loved the bin bag dress, very dramatic and her hair and make up were spectacular for the music and dance.

All in all it was my favourite 3 minutes of the whole show

A bizarre theme I agree, but somehow it worked!

My son is doing this piece of music for GCSE so very familiar and still not bored with it.

Would be very difficult to fit costumes to the original as how do you costume a radio show about alien invasion. So doing a sort of Legionnaire vs Iceni queen was a good twist.

Feeling Good is about black emancipation, I didn't really notice any of that in Janette's staging, although the Pseudo-Cont...sorry, "American Smooth" choreography is often a bit beyond my ken.
