I think they are very similar and appeal to the same people and have the same attitude IMO

He's definitely majorly overrated for what he is, although Steve Brookstein 2.0 might be a bit far.

There are very few interesting acts this year in general, sadly.

Not in the slightest. He's got a great voice and a great tone and a good image.

The one problem is his performance when he's not doing rock. He might as well be wondering what he's going to have for tea for all the emotion in his face.

I do miss the theatricality and voices of certain past contestants...Nothing grabs me this year (or last)

No, what an insult. Although he is hard to place, like a mix of Olly and Matt Cardle. But better.

Not at all but then I think Steve was better than the bad press he's had.

Absolutely loved Ben tonight and couldn't see what the judges were saying at all

He's nowhere near Olly's level, are you mad?

Ben is far better than the mockney and the dullard.

No you are clearly. I like Olly but Ben surpasses him vocally by a mile.

Well he has a great voice as does Steve but I'd compare him more with Shayne Ward tbh. I love him anyway

Oh technically he's far superior. Olly was a much better performer though, it has to be said. I really want to boot Ben up the arse, cos the blank face thing is killing me.

Exactly, Olly was far more interesting a contestant.

Vocals aren't everything. In the real world, you don't necessarily need the best vocals to succeed, but you do need some form of charisma, and if people are comparing Ben to Steve Brookstein, he evidently is lacking it.

That's why taste is so subjective as I can not and never could see anything interesting or charismatic about Olly Murs. Possibly my most disliked XF contestant of all time and the one whose popularity still bemuses me to this day

Even after his stint on The Xtra Factor?

Yeah which is why I said he was a mix. He's not exactly like any previous contestant really. Olly has to perform because he's a pretty average singer. Ben can learn to perform in time.

Agreed.
Reason I said he was better. WAY better! Although I do like Olly.

It's very true, vocals are far from everything.

Ben's tone + image should mean he's easily bankable and, to be fair, before the lives he was much better. But except for the couple of the weeks where the theme has suited him, I've felt the performance was seriously lacking. He'll probably make the final still, but you don't win by sleepwalking it and he's risking a shock exit.

I think Olly's better than your average X-Factor fair (again an interesting tone which has served him well), but yes, he did rely more on performance and likeability.

The problem is, Ben's lack of connection is off-putting. I worry for him carrying on like this, because there's no excuse for it.

I'm with you on this. Ooh and they've just said his name. He's performing tomorrow night. I'll be switching over.
