Kristina doesn't choreograph AT, none of the pros do. They're not specialists, so they have outside help (and indeed lots of them have outside help for other dances too, not just AT, Charleston and Salsa!)

Simon's At started and finished ok it was the bit in the middle that was less impressive, imo he suffers having Kristina as a partner, she is often showing off her skills and not her celeb's! Definitely not a ten dance,

I agree with this, I thought Jake landed unsteadily on his feet a few times. Technically Simon was better. He did do a lot of leg work. and kinda led............although a bit woody.

I thought Mark Wright did a sequence of movements, I saw no dancing in that at all.........

You can recognise a Kristana AT a mile off, yes they get help but then they put their own spin on it .

But in the context of a generally hugely underwhelming series it is one of my current highlights!

I can understand it not being people's favourite dance of the night (though it was mine), but I don't think there's any cause for saying it was worse than Sunetra or Judy, both of whom were severely lacking in the technical, timing and performance departments!

As far as unpopular opinions go though, my opinion on Caroline's jive is very similar to the OP's opinion on Simon's AT - I have no clue why it scored so highly, I thought it was pretty poor!”

Have to agree about Caroline. I thought she was out of time with the music and her kicks and flicks weren't sharp. I was amazed how highly she scored. Simon's AT was good but not great. Karen and Ramps and Rachel and Vincent are 10s not this.

I thought Darcey was a lot better this week than last, and I could spot only one "the boys are right".

I loved it. I wouldn't agree it deserved 10's, but thats not a big deal for me. He doesn't have dance training which some have, he doesn't have the 'I'm the worst dancer here so I'll be the most fun and get the public vote' factor, so on a scale of 'fairness' I don't think a judge giving him a point higher than people expected him to get is that significant. Because its all biased in some way or another, and Simon has had his fair share (if not more) of 'unfairness' so far, so good on him. I loved the dance.

I am not keen on Simon but was i,pressed by his at. Having watched it back I can see it wasn't perfect but for the short times they get to study such a complex dance I still think it was a good effort.

If this is the unpopular opinion thread can I just say:

I don't like Jake's dancing
I don't rate Sunetra at all
I think Judy IS FANTASTIC

BUT

I didn't think he had enough Tango content. Most of it was Kristina dancing around him (I know that's a lot of what the AT is, even when Vincent and Flavia did it, but you could see Vincent actually doing something during their routines!)

He minced up to her, he's supposed to be a manly Argentinean labourer.

His upper body was so wooden, when the entire point of the Argentine Tango compared to the Ballroom Tango is the fluidity compared to the very staccato Ballroom variant.

And, most unpopular opinion of them all...

I thought it was the worst dance of the night :/ (Yes, even worse than Judy's!)”

I love Kristina too.

All the moves were in the right places but there wasn't anything that lifted it above for me.

For someone so attractive and talented, I find Simon curiously sexless when he dances

Its not really Sunetras fault, if she had Pasha things would be very different.

There are (at least) a couple of misconceptions about AT in SCD circles (and in this thread)

Oh I still have not seen Simon's AT to comment and I may avoid as I have too much knowledge even though it is very little compared with some on this forum.

SCD dances are much more enjoyable if you have never danced the dance in question. {I only took up AT having seen it on SCD]. Best to treat them all as showdance spectacles without any expectations.

1. Smelly Gauchos
Gauchos are in the pampas not in Buenos Aires or Montevideo. That's about 1000 Km away. I doubt that any Gaucho has ever danced AT.

2. Argentine Labourers
AT is multi-class. You can have Bankers and Lawyers dancing with Dockers and Hairdressers. Oh and nothing to do with prostitution.

3. The general Argentinian attitude to AT is similar to the British attitude to Gracie Fields. A bit dated and something grandparents appreciated. Something for tourists and the strange. Only 5-10% of adult Argentinians will know how to tango unlike, say in Colombia, Venezuela or Cuba where 99% ++ dance Salsa etc.

4. The main point of being a man in AT (and of course generally in life) is not to be noticed by anybody watching but to make the woman look good - and so generate more dances by women looking who will also want to look good.

Me too. I can't really put my finger on why.

I thought he danced the choreography well but I didn't get any feeling of intimacy between him and Kristina.

And on a separate note, I would have staged it totally differently. NOT a comment on the choreography and dance comment but I'd have used different parts of the music - used an extra dancer like you can in blackpool and played up the "jealousy" vibe from the song. Maybe have the female dancer start the dance with someone else dancing a purposefully stiff and proper ballroom tango, then the male dancer comes and dances a passionate argentine tango with her. But she has to go back to the ballroom tango dancer as the music finishes. Would also have used the "why does my heart cry" part of the song as that's where the music really swells to a crescendo.

I was a bit out-of-step with the reaction to Simon & Kristina. Certainly it was good but not good enough to earn one of my 3 votes.

For me there's just a hint of the robot in Simon's dancing.

Maybe, no idea. I stick by what I see. She's mediocre for whatever reason.
