called Pay as you Go ‘Talkalot with Calls and Messages’ .....from their website....

If you would prefer your allowance to provide you with free calls as well as messages, you can select the Online Pay as you Go ‘Talkalot with Calls and Messages’ option. For a minimum monthly top up of only £10, this entitles you to the following free allowance each month:

Up to 100 anyone, anytime minutes or 100 text messages or 33 media messages or a combination of all three

1MB O2 Active Browsing
I think its even better than that, I think you still get the £10 credit to use as well - so really 100 minutes for free.

I've sent of for a 99p sim card (now with free java games ) to get the full details.

More info:

The inclusive anyone any time minutes, the text messages and the media messages are part of the same allowance. 1 minute of call time is equivalent to 1 text message. 1 media message is equivalent to 3 text messages or 3 minutes of calls.

It says on their website that if you want to be on the free call tariff instead to call 2425 from your phone.

I assume its open to all customers, so might be worth a try giving them a call.

when i call 2425, i get the following message: "Sorry, Bolt Ons are not compatible with your current calling plan" then it goes on about how to change to a compatible calling plan, such as Online Talkalot. now, what do these Online PAYG sims come connected to as default? Online Talkalot, then why the hell are O2 giving me that crap

Thank you for your request.

There is no charge for changing your messaging bundle or tariff. Please note that a change of tariff request will be actioned within 48hrs and a change of messaging bundle request will happen on your bundle anniversary date. Please ensure that you have enough credit on your mobile to cover this purchase.
just logged into www.o2.co.uk and selected to change to Online PAYG Talkalot (as it doesnt seem to be on that already), see what happens within the next 48 hrs

Maybe because they want a running functional network - the 300 texts & Wap is still available, not unlimited but much better than nothing.

The new offer is certainly now very tempting for those that don't text as much but certainly like to chat -the first PAYG plan which gives you free minutes for just topping up!

My SIM arrived today, the packs are still the same as the old ones & don't mention the new tariff at all.

I now have a dilema. When my contract runs out do I stick with my original plan & go with the nice people at Virgin Mobile, have decent service or go with O2 & put up with their annoying balance updates?

Past experiece tells me will it would be a bad idea to go with O2 but it will save me a bit of money.

O2 is very tempting as I chat more than I text & would be the sensible choice given I have no job lined up yet for after I graduate. I still also like Virgin Mobile.
