Overhyping of Blackpool ruined the whole experience

Of course it was too good to be true and when I saw those backing dancers I knew it was a bad omen . No need for them/ far to distracting . Then we had the appalling lighting and back lighting and all those strobes to further distract the viewing and this constant cheering and clapping and the overhyped Tess in another appalling dress .

I guessed Len wasn't at all happy with all these distractions but had to pretend for the sake of the producer, no wonder he let slip with an expletive .

Great shame to ruin what should have been a wonderful experience if only that producer would relax and just let the dancing tell the story instead of a cacophony of hype, noise and distractions .

They always have more bells and whistles at blackpool. I thought it was a great show.

It was a great show, as it usually is at Blackpool.

And a bit different ( done well, as it was ) to me enhances the show.

I couldn't disagree much more with the OP.

I was lucky enough to be in the audience and it was brilliant to watch in the Tower Ballroom, the pro dance in particular was amazing. The cast and crew really do work so hard to make a good show but I'm guessing it's impossible to please everyone.

I loved it BUT what I didn't like was the overscoring !

Peace, I am in total agreement. I didn't like the backing dancers and the floor-projections ruined any glimpse I may have had at the footwork.

But the absolute worst was the judges' scoring. Just because it's a big event doesn't mean all sense has to fly out the window. I thought there were pronounced errors in most of the dances and yet nothing was mentioned.

The standard is very high this year but that doesn't necessitate fawning and hyperbole. Even Sunetra couldn't believe the 8s she was awarded.

Jake's had hardly any dancing in it. Frankie's WAS skippy. Mark's was underwhelming. Pixie's lacked finesse. Caroline's lacked precision. Only Simon did really well and that wasn't remotely perfect. These are my top 6 and I like watching them all but last night was not their finest hour. So let's not pretend otherwise. That's what got my goat. All those ruddy 10s!

I thought it was bad too. Surprised at how many thought it was the best show this series. It's so obvious that the judges had been briefed to give tens just because it's Blackpool. Makes a Blackpool ten almost on a par with a Donny ten! Not quite but they are not nearly as deserved as they should be.

Also- I have a serious question about the little girl singer at the start. Was she meant to be a bad singer? Where did they find her from? I don't want to cause offence in case there was something wrong with her and they were giving her the opportunity to do this as some sort of treat, but she could not sing at all. Then I thought maybe that was the point and it was sort of a joke, as she was supposed to be a young Iveta and Iveta can't sing either!! Anyone any idea?

I thought I was the only one who hated yesterday's show. I agree, it was overblown with the additional dancers, the props, the over-marking for a bunch of non-descript dances, none of which were particularly special. And if I hear the word 'Blackpool' one more time some I'll chuck something at the TV.

The show has been up and down for me this year; some great shows, some awful and some bland. I love the presenting team, though, whether it be Tess and Claudia or Tess and Zoe and It Takes Two has been as strong as ever.

The marking was way OTT . As you say the overmarking seems to be for the place . The same thing happened last year . It's Blackpool, it must be a 10 .

The only person who deserved a 10 was Pixie . She was brilliant in that Paso and she has a fantastic partnership with Trent .

I'm afraid I have to disagree, as I really enjoyed the show.

Disagree it was about time tens came out I felt Craig should have issued at least one most of the dancers really upped thier game, just two didn't. I bet their in the dance off.

totally agree re the lighting, at points i felt the set was slightly too dark to the point you struggled to see the lower body. and before anyone starts moaning yes i appreciate they want to achieve atmospheric lighting and effects and no i don't expect a bank of 1,000,000 watt white lights and nothing else, but like the op i did feel there were some lighting issues.

oh yeah and they ran the risk of too much twirly twirly camera work for my liking. for me some of the dance is lost through constantly switching angles and twirly twirly. and no i don't expect them to use 1 x static camera throughout

overall though i enjoyed the show

Are you on glue? It was the best show of the series by a mile. The only way it could have been improved was if Tess had fallen in the sea shortly before the show.

So many people whine about the singers, the costumes, the hosts, the judges, the venue, the VT packages etc....I wonder why they bother watching the show at all, and instead simply go attend a professional dance contest.

It was just one more result of the dogma of hyperbole the producer has. Hence the standing ovations commanded by the floor manager and every series being the best ever.
But it could have been worse.
It could have been Wembley.

If I have any lasting memory of Blackpool, it will be of having my eyes gouged out by the yellow spot lights during Trixie's Paso.

I thought it was a great show. The opening numbers of the Saturday and Results shows were fantastic and although there was some over marking it didn't detract from my enjoyment. Heck, even Judy danced some Viennese waltz steps. It's the nearest we get to a proper Showbiz show on TV nowadays, or would you rather watch a load of celebs eat Kangaroo testicles and be covered in creepy crawlies?
