Great to see a real SUPERSTAR on tonight. Thought she was brilliant and I'd be more than happy to have her on again next week.
Love Shirley. Love how she BOOMED that first "GOLDFINNNNNNNGAH" like it was whale song. She's got the finesse of an oil tanker bless her, but always such fun. Give her to Anton next series.

She was tremendous. (Gregory Porter was fabulous too, IMO)
She was stunning in every way IMO and not too precious to share the floor with the SCD dancers like some lesser stars.
I loved both the dance and the musical performances. A Maz ing.

Yes - a legend like her and the camera panned away from her and onto the dancers quite often (in fact, I wish they'd stayed on her a lot more). I'd far rather listen to and watch her than Annie Lennox, the only one (I think?) who hasn't had dancers

I was the same! I usually want to see the pro dancers during the music act but tonight I wanted to see Shirley instead and the camera kept cutting away. Not being dismissive of the pros btw as they were also great but for once I only wanted to see the singer!

I love Moonraker too. It always gets overshadowed by Diamonds are Forever and Goldfinger but she sings it beautifully.

Me too. Can't believe they let Annie Lennox not share the floor with dancers. If Dame Shirley will then there are no excuses. Great to gave three pro couples dance this time.

You know Antins not allowed near ethnics anymore after the last incident .
What an insult to put the dancers on during her performance. Has anyone heard her sing live? I've been to many of her concerts over the years and to hear her 'in the flesh' is wonderful.

She must have agreed to having the dancers though, unlike Ms Lennox, who is obviously a far greater star than the wonderful Miss Bassey *irony*
I don't think it's an insult to have dancers on with the singers - and a superstar like Shirley commands attention anyway.
Personally I'd have refused Annie Lennox. If she wanted the change the nature of the show then bog off and get some free advertising somewhere else! Like a music show not a dance show!

Yes, I have seen her many times, The Festival Hall, The Albert Hall, and the 1964 Night of 100 Stars when she shared the stage with Judy Garland.
Incredible to realise that she is thirty years older than Judy Garland when she died, and her voice is as strong as ever.
Shirley is what I call a STAR! that word is so overused these days, but she is one of the few who really deserves that title.

Moonraker is so underrated; in fact, John Barry's whole score for that movie is. Maybe because the film itself was so overblown and fantastical (though, personally, I love it!), the subtleties of the score got lost. But alongside Nancy Sinatra's You Only Live Twice, Bassey's Moonraker is one of the most beautiful Bond songs.
I think the BBC should have used a top notch amplification system complete with an app that ensures that the singer always hits the right note.
Also, I'm not a fan of the bottoxed older face. An aged face shows survival and experience. I'd much rather see that than faux youthfulness any day.

I am sure that with her status if she did not want dancers then there would be no dancers. She must have agreed to it to add to the spectacle of her performance.

Sorry not a great fan and the beginning was not good, but I can understand why some might like her and she is going well for her age, better than some younger singers for sure.

I agree with those who thought she was brilliant. I was a bit scared that she'd disappoint (as so many have this series unfortunately) but absolutely not.
