Why is the 'home of dance' the only place that doesn't have a dance named after it?

I think I may have mentioned before that when he was 19, my Dad was the Charleston Champion of Chiswick (strictly amateur of course.) He told me once that he was thrown out the Chiswick Town Hall for dancing what he called "The Blackpool Bottom". Sorry now I never asked him what it was - I know there was a dance called the Black Bottom, so perhaps it was a version of that.

There is a Fylde Waltz which is another sequence dance. And Blackpool is on the Fylde coast.

It's the British National Championships this week and the Ballroom World Championships. Both of which are on in the Empress Ballroom in the Winter Gardens in Blackpool. Anyone who wants to see yer actual real life competition dancing in the proper home of ballroom should watch those.

What a lovely story, thank you.

I'll be there, front row for the Worlds. Looking forward to it.

Its Professional Worlds Terry - I'm not a Pro - but I'll be on the front row watching intently.

Oh I will for sure. The quality, sheer power and artistry of these couples from all over the world is truly unbelievable. Sitting so close to the action is breathtakingly beautiful.

In my day it was the amateur/senior competitions in the Winter Gardens and the junior/juvenile competitions in the Tower Ballroom. Sadly I never got to compete at the Tower as I didn't take up dancing until quite late in life but my brother was lucky enough to make it through to a number of finals at the Tower
