I was in Sweden recently and caught a bit of Big Brother over there. I don't speak Swedish at all but found it entertaining nevertheless. Surprising was their banner, which is the same font as our own Big Brother 1... they've not had cause to re-invent themselves year in year out.
But every year the media here speculate on the sex rumours and last year's campaign run up to the show boasted the steamist ever and raunchy and promising that it was hotter than ever. All crap really wasn't it.
What can you surmise about the Swedes then? They televised group showers, topless or naked (ladies, there were a few, what my female companion described as buff, guys), various fumblings and on the highlights show even one lucky guy getting 'seen-to' under the covers (he was lying in bed, half under the duvet, she ventured south and quite clearly wasn't adjusting distance for eyesight for the next few minutes).
It beats stills of garden statues, soundclips of hammering nails or sawing wood, or passing trains.
Although like many I watch BB for a voyeuristic interest in people, I don't mind admitting that sex does indeed sell (though not always - I do have some morals (oh, and taste)). The British public and the media circus is too hypocritical to allow any real action to be on show. As they say 'don't believe the hype'.
