Is Time of the Doctor not included in the series 8 DVD?

Normally they contain last years Xmas ep.

S7 Box set stops at Name of the Doctor. I have the Day of the Doctor standalone DVD. I just assumed S8 Box Set would pick up at Time of the Doctor since its the 2013 Xmas ep.

They have done a 50th specials box set.

Night, DAY & Time of the Doctor, Adventures in time and space and also the 5-ish doctors.

came out a couple of weeks ago.

It's like the David Tenant specials box set.

I saw that but its not in stock anywhere and is going for £90 on ebay

I thought it must have come out months ago cause of the price.

I'm really disappointed with this also. Day of the doctor was understandable to not be included on any series as it was a one off special, but time should have definitely been included on one of the series set's. The 50th boxset thing is nothing like the Tennant specials year boxset. The tennant specials had 5 hour long episodes and was only about £30-40 when new, a sum worth it for 5 hours of episodic content. also it was widely available and still is. The supposed 50th anniversary boxset is firstly overpriced for those who don't care about extra's, as it was going new for around £35 and only included 2 episodes (when the whole of series 8 is around the same price for 12), and secondly, even if you thought that price was worth it, they made it a limited edition
meaning after a short time you now can't get it anyway unless you want to pay an even more ridiculous price.

I can understand them thinking it may look strange to have the first 2 episodes of Capaldi's first boxset being Matt smith episodes, but the simple solution would have been to release a cheaper set of just day of the doctor/time of the doctor for around the £15-£20 mark. If that was available i'd buy it straight away rather than any of the current options for owning the 2 episodes

I think it was a limited edition which is unfortunate for those who didn't pre-order it or buy it on release.
The content of the box set is great and I'd much rather the "Of the Doctor" Trilogy got its own box set than if Time of the Doctor was included in The Series 8 set, but the actual packaging is beyond crap. It's made of some of the most flimsy card I've ever seen. You have to remove the DVDs with immense care to avoid ripping the packaging.

One of the current options being to buy them separately for less

The Time of the Doctor - £5.99

The Day of the Doctor - £5.99

Sure, Time of The Doctor comes with the previous Christmas specials, but it's not reflected in the price atm.

True, you make a good point, but having to single cases for two single episodes, when every other episode is in boxset, is perfectly viable as you say, it just lacks a little finesse, like they hadn't really thought through the release of those episodes beforehand.

It's the same for people who buy the standalone/vanilla DVD's. They no longer sell them that way at all any more, so I'm going to have Series 1-7 all in volumes and then Series 8 onwards in hefty box sets... they've messed up the releases a little bit frankly.

Though I can understand The Time of the Doctor not being included in Series 8...it wasn't produced as part of that series, features a different Doctor and aired eight months before any of Series 8 did. I still think they should have released an Eleventh Doctor Specials box-set, featuring Day, Time, An Adventure in Space and Time and then Night of the Doctor, The Last Day and The Five-ish Doctors as special features. Pack in some more special features as well, maybe An Unearthly Child if they wanted to bulk it out, and it would have been a tidier box.

The things they got wrong with the 50th set-
1. Making it limited edition.
2. Duplicating name of the doctior. 3. The sound error on the day of the doctor blu ray.
4. The culture show special and the afterparty missed off.
5. Everything mixed up on the set. ie the fiveish doctors reboot on the last disc, should have all been issued in transmission order.
6. Lack of new exclusive to dvd features and commentaries.

There is a way to solve that if you have both Day and Time separate, take the slips out of the cases put the day and the time disks in the double case that came with time, stick the other Matt Smith specials in the case that came with day and put the two slips back to back in the time double case which will now have both day and time. You can put the slips ether way round that you like so ether day or time is showing on the outside with the other showing on the inside.
The case that was day that now has no slip and the disk of the other Matt Smith specials you could put away somewhere give it away or whatever really.

Oh and they should have rereleased the two as one about 6 months ago.

That was a limited edition and they only made a certain number of copies I think 6000 on BluRay and 4000 on DVD, I just knew that was short sighted!
If it were me I would have made the same set of content, but in a less elaborate box with no limit and then a special with a special box better than the one that they did for collectors.

Personally, they should of delayed the release of the seventh season boxset, and had released the complete seventh season once the 50th anniversary and Matt smith's final epsiode had aired.

I agree. If they could have believed people could be just a little bit patient in waiting for the series 7 dvd, that would have been the best option. they already had the part 1 and part 2 releases for people who were impatient so I don't see why they didn't do it that way really. would have been a lot neater if the series 7 boxset ended with 11 regenerating into 12 and then the first of the series 8 box set was deep breath following straight on. it could easily be confusing to someone say in the future liking doctor who and buying the boxsets from now and wondering why they had the series 7 and series 8 boxset's yet the end of one made no sense with the beginning of the other.Unless someone in the know was able to point out there was some dodgy releasing now with a few of the episodes, they'd go from john hurt being revealed, to being introduced to a shaken up Capaldi and be scratching there heads as to why.

The season 7 set was released at the right time. You really could not have delayed it any longer as it was nearly 2 years waiting. Neither day or time belonged with s7, neither do they belong with s8. They were specials and were released that way although they were not very good releases.

If you consider that the sales of the individual dvds 9as opposed to the boxsets) might have been pretty low, and as they are released on a commercial basis, if sales volumes are low then it is no longer viable (profitable) to continue with that release schedule. Maybe most people are simply buying the boxsets these days anyway

The BBC were never going to delay the release of the Series 7 box set. Releasing it when they did allowed it to ride the hype of the 50th Anniversary and was an idea Christmas present for many.

Besides, as many others have also pointed out it also had episodes dating very far back on it. The Doctor, The Widow and the Wardrobe (despite initially being excluded) dates back all the way to 2011. It was the second half of 2013 already, waiting for the 50th Anniversary would have pushed it back to 2014.

I simply thing they should have done a box of 50th content, and labelled it accordingly. They could still have gotten away with doing a standalone release of The Day of the Doctor to sell for Christmas I imagine, but the following shambles hasn't really been excusable. I hope from here things are a bit tidier...although the Christmas specials are now technically at the end of the series that came before them rather than before the series that follows, and this won't be reflected by The Doctor and Santa (or whatever it'll end up being called) being included as part of Series 9.

Got a feeling they will release the 2014 Christmas special on its own in January and eventually season 9 will be just that season 9. The Germans though have delayed the release of s8 until next year so they can include this years Christmas special on it.

It would be the third time it has been released though-not necessary.

Do you have a multi regional player? Because it's cheeper and available here in Oz.

There were already the series 7 part 1 and series 7 part 2 releases to keep those who couldn't wait happy. For those of us who can wait, I'm sure a large proportion of us would have been happy to do so for day and time to be included on series 7, which seems to be proved by the existence of this thread existing at all (someone wishing they'd at least been on one of the series box sets) and the amount of people complaining about how they have been released.

Also, you say they didn't belong with either series, but they blatantly belong with series 7 in my opinion. How can anyone say they don't when everyone refers to name, day, and time as the 'of the doctor' trilogy and the bbc themselves acknowledge they are a trilogy of sorts by putting name on the limited edition set with day and time. My point being name of the doctor is the last episode on the series 7 set, yet most people acknowledge that realistically it is the first part of a trilogy which only ends with time of the doctor. In a way it''s almost like if they'd ended the series 3 boxset with Utopia and only released the subsequent master episodes as a single release, or the same if they'd ended the series 4 box set with turn Left.

I think its obvious that the 50th aniversary set will get rereleased in a non limited version at some point down the line. Going by how quickly it sold out, how unnecessary bulky the box is and how many requests for it in the us and other regions id be surprised if it isn't at some point.
