Do you think the Actors at Hollyoaks bitch and cringe at the show in secret?
obviously they are being paid, so they read the scripts and just get on with it. as you would probably expect in the soap world, just to keep their jobs.
but at home, or in secret or even with eachother behind the writers backs, do you think they despair at some of the tripe they have to churn out?? for example how do sienna and dodgers actors keep a straight face when practicing lines for their utterly ludacrus storyline? or when the other actors read another murder, or another death is on the cards, what do you think their reaction is? i say this, as i know exactly what an ex cast member thinks of it all as she lives in my area though ofcourse thats not for a public forum. i just wonder what the current cast must think. the show is now bordering on sci fi |

When I was catching up today, I can't imagine the actors not cringing at some of the lines. "I am your twin and the mother of your child". Just awful lol. Still couldn't stop watching though!

Well one would rather bitch about another soap cause he knows how shit his become.
They must have some reservations about the stuff they chug out, most of it's been utterly ridiculous and below standard. |

Yes because if you watch bloopers on dvds everyone corpses laughing even in serious, well written stories.
But no because they're actors and they're acting out fiction so I don't think they would for that reason. They expect it to be ridiculous and Hollyoaks is tongue in cheek, they have comedy gags/scenes every week. If anything I think they would enjoy having something new to do all the time instead of going around in circles like more safe, predictable, you know what's gonna happen before the episode even starts, soaps that are more mainstream. Naming no names because all soaps are guilty of it even Hollyoaks but it is unique in it's high action approach to story telling. . |

Hollyoaks would be an exciting soap to work on. Constant stunts along not knowing what your character will get up to next. In the other soaps the actors would film repetitive scenes like arguing, drinking in the pub and having family dinners etc. It would get boring after a while.

I'm sure some of them must. It must be pretty soul-destroying to have to go along with such tripe.

HO is disliked on DS by a handful of people. On Twitter, FB other fourms it gets positive comments, the raitings are up and the show won best soap. It's only a bunch of DS members who have a negative opinions. |

I find it funny that the fans claim that Hollyoaks is just fun and not meant to be taken seriously when the recent interview with Brian Kirkwood proves that they actually do take themselves deadly seriously and are proud of the tripe they show.
In answer to the OP's question, yes definitely, you get hints of it in interviews 'I wasn't so sure how they would do this' 'I'm not happy with what my character is doing' etc and when they leave there is always little digs. Gemma Merna who played Carmel recently said part of the reason she left is there wasn't any storylines for the older characters. Another example is James Sutton who when he joined Emmerdale admitted that the quality of acting was on a whole other level to HO. |

I'd imagine acting on Hollyoaks would be good fun. Yes it's ridiculous half of the time but that is also what's great about it. The actors are doing what they dreamed about at drama school, they have a well paid tv job with regular work and a big fat cheque for their efforts. I think the actors who play Sienna and Dodger probably have a good laugh between takes. If I was acting in a soap I'd be grateful for the money they all make.

I don't watch the show but it comes across as cluttered and messy with overblown storylines.

They must do. Whether it's sniggering and having fun or being embarrassed/despairing at the crap they have to say, surely they can't have much faith in the whole thing.

Well I watched HO for the first time in many months...only to be rolling my eyes at just how many issues were kicking off at once...lol Who would move to that village really?? Sienna is still loopy, her dad was still controlling Maxine, ANOTHER McQueen sister dies.., it's too OTT for me, I've tried to love it but I just can't. Too many characters end up dead AND sometimes from the same family! They need a therapist permanently based in the village to cope with all this misery!

No, I think some like James Sutton are deluded and believe it to be some BAFTA award worthy drama.

I don't know but in the recent interviews with Danny Mac about the incest plot he looked embarrassed to be there!

I don't see it as Scifi as its grounded in reality
But it's a badly wrote and badly acted show When Lindsay gave birth it was so bad it was funny and Myras crying was funny after how badly she treated Carmel and the acting but a few episodes later Myra is fine again |

Yes they must do, but to be honest I bet any soap actor who has to play out ridicules storylines probably cringe and talk to thier family/friends about how awful it is, It wouldn't surprise me if some dont even watch the shows

Of course some of them are going to roll their eyes (as actors on all shows will do from time to time) and they might have a laugh but then they go for it on the take. As Michael Nader once said of Dynasty, it should be taken much more humorously than we play it. |

Either way, Myra's coming across as a downright self-obsessed hypocrite, which means we're so going to get more tears-and-wailing from her about "Mah Mercedes", cheerfully ignoring how she was to her last time she saw her, when she realises Mercedes is 'missing'.Agreed about Lindsey though - I couldn't stop laughing, even though her going into labour so loudly (and all that followed) was so obviously a 'let's get her bonding with again' plot device that calling it blatant just seems like such an understatement.

As an actor it must be quite fulfilling as you did get to do stuff you wouldn't do on other shows but as a long term actor it must be pretty frustrating (see Gemma Merna) as only the current producers favourites usually get the front and centre stories and job security is next to nothing

Much like a lot of jobs tho, you don't have to like it, you just have to do it, and they have the choice to leave if they want to.
It does look like the cast all mostly get on well when you see 'behind the scenes' things, and it certainly looks like they have a lots of fun. x |
