I was very lucky - my hubby happened to find APTCH and mentioned it to me. He had the telly on while he was doing some woodwork. It was in season 1 and I was able to catch up with all the episodes on the Iplayer except for ep 1 and 2. My hubby bought the DVD for me for Christmas so I could see those two episodes.

I've watched up to the series finale of series 3 and I can't wait for series 4 to come next year! I hope this time the BBC will advertise it more and give it a later time slot- and repeat all the episodes so people can catch up and be ready for the start of series 4

That's unlikely as it was bought by BBC Daytime, who were instructed by the BBC Trust to improve the quality of its daytime output (which I think goes up until 6pm).

5-6 PM would be a good time slot- perfect for kids getting home for school and their parents.

Trouble is, it's not really suitable for children (even allowing for the fact that the episodes have apparently been trimmed for content for their UK broadcast), so in that slot it could attract too many complaints.

There's no reason why this show can't be shown at peak time, regardless how it was acquired. It just needs the decision to be made. It's just a "business decision."

There's plenty of other programmes which could be scheduled for mid afternoon on BBC2, to replace it at the time, after all, it's only on for a few weeks.

Finally finished all the episodes, and I want to watch them all again already.

There's not one character that I don't like which is a rarity for me.

Without a doubt though, my favourite has to be the archetypal old sticky beak Doris Collins - played to perfection by Deborah Kennedy. She steals every scene she is in. I found her hysterical.

Another one I really liked was Roy. His friendship with Sarah was really nice.

This show is so well produced. It flowed along effortlessly. Most of all I had no trouble hearing any of the dialogue which is becoming a problem on other shows.

Can't wait until S4 comes around next year. Hopefully this thread will stay active until then.

I'm so cross with myself for being greedy and not making myself resist binge-watching.

I've thoroughly enjoyed the series and what an ending

I'm gradually weaning myself off by watching Crownies via YouTube, but I'm wishing my life away by longing for 2017!

Don't forget about 'Janet King' as well. Nice to get a Marta fix.

I love Doris Collins and I liked how she's changed from a sticky beak to a kind, caring and protective friend to Sarah and Rene.

Marta also stars in Jack Irish with Guy Pearce about a novelist detective. It looks good as well. Love Aussie drama.

I agree with all you say here Jimmy!..... I absolutely love this prog its my all time favourite that's for sure!.. Although I must say ' There is no reason with all the ways we have to watch now that it cant be recorded or as I do, watch it on the iplayer, it's my treat at the end of the day when I go to bed to watch it on my tablet!...
And have no fear that we wont be excited and discussing it on here in January when it is due back...... I continually look a week ahead to the afternoon time slots for this programme and also The Dr Blake mysteries and the Indian Doctor So there is no way that series 4 will start without us all knowing it!......

I have saved every episode mklass, and will be viewing them all again before next January. I read somewhere that you pick up even more of the details on the second viewing.

I should have done what you did and restricted myself to an episode a day. But once I started I couldn't stop such was the quality. Most of all I cared about the characters, and that is what makes APTCH so special.

I shall be keeping an eye on this thread over the coming months.

Yes I have got all three series saved as well Jimmy so I too will be able to go back at any time and indulge in it whenever I fancy ..... ps. I do love being able to have sessions of watching back to back. But... I couldn't wait that long with this programme. I had to watch it every day ....lol.... but of course I will be able to do that with my recorded ones.

An absolute Gem of a programme

Made, and based in Australia.

Well worth watching, on iPlayer if you miss any Episodes.

Thoroughly recommended.
Series three will be repeated beginning Monday 5 December 2016 on BBC Two"

A Place to Call Home will return to BBC Television for a fourth series in 2017.

I'm watching season 4 and it really is at its very best at the moment. Bevan Lee stepped down and left the episodes for season 3 to other writers and it was good.

However, Bevan Lee has returned to write all the episodes for season 4 and it really is top notch!

Good news! Season 5 has been confirmed so there's more to look forward to.

I really do not understand why the BBC buried this excellent show in the day time schedules and then to make matters worst put it on BBC 2; it at the very least deserves to be on BBC 1 day time

We've asked the same questions with each series. It really deserved a prime time evening slot, but obviously probably wasn't considered dumbed down enough for peak viewing.
Hang on a minute, though, it's Australian, the BBC look down on their productions, the best it ever could have hoped for was an evening slot on BBC4.

Some years ago, the BBC Trust instructed the BBC to improve its daytime programming. Purchases of dramas such as this are part of that process, and they have been acquired by BBC Daytime (out of their budget).

For all we know, the cost was related to the channel upon which is was to be shown, with a BBC one (main channel) prime time broadcast attracting a higher cost.

But yes, it does deserve a wider audience.

It's always been the same with the BBC, the channel controllers see other BBC channels as competitors.

Nothing wrong in trying to improve the output of daytime TV, but in the case of this, someone with a bit of authority and sense should have said to BBC Daytime, "Sorry chaps this is too good for 'care home audiences' you aren't having it. Have another cookery/house/quiz show instead."

Can't wait for this to come back, I got hooked on it last year and did as much catch up as I could. Missed the first series as OH doesn't/won't pay for catch up on Sky
But I love it, might even do the re-runs

That would not have fulfilled the brief from the Trust though (as part of the issue was the number of cookery/homes/auction programmes on Daytime BBC, and the sameness of the output).

Look, you know exactly what I meant. Or did it really need a daft smiley?

It wouldn't have been hard to find some sort of alternative that would have satisfied the requirement of the brief.
It wouldn't have been, "You need to find a really good Australian drama series for daytime BBC2"

I've mentioned this before and it's the main reason why I find other ways to watch this show. This is a programme that really should be given a night time spot on a BBC channel. Unfortunately, some of the content is edited due to it being shown on daytime tv, so I'd rather watch the full version.

But for viewers of daytime TV, especially those wanting better dramas, A Place To Call Home fulfils that brief 100%. No reason for them to be short-changed.

Perhaps the BBC was surprised how well it was received. Maybe between the two of us we could agree on a compromise - a main-channel prime time repeat showing (if available as part of the agreed contract). That way both daytime and prime time viewers win.

The Australians were surprised as there was a viewer campaign launched for another series after the screening of the first. Someone at the BBC should have realised that it was a winner. They'd have to have been a bit dumb not to notice.

Repeats of "Play for Today" etc., which would be appreciated and fulfill any "afternoon brief." They repeat enough comedy stuff like Hi De Hi etc., which goes down well in week-day afternoons.
Just because the first series was shown in the afternoon, doesn't mean further series would have to follow in the same slot.
It might just be a bit of possessive behaviour by those running the different channels.
As I said earlier, the individual BBC channels consider that they should be competing with each other.
