I'm so glad this is on from the beginning! When it was on the first time I'd missed quite a few episodes so I didn't bother to come into it half the way through, so yesterday I made sure I saw it. I'm very impressed! I love the character of Sarah, she's strong and isn't afraid to say what she thinks and also has a good sense of humour. I like the verbal sparring between her and George Bligh and also between her and Dr Duncan. I'm going to make sure I watch it every day

It's easily one of the best dramas on television. Season 4 is absolutely extraordinary although why the BBC choose to bury this gem in the afternoon is beyond me. It would make a great Sunday evening drama to fill in the void between Call the Midwife and Poldark.

This is brilliant! I'm loving being able to see series 1 even though I watched the other series last year. Just love Dr Duncan and Sarah is brilliant especially when she spars with Mrs Bligh Snr,

She gets worse as well. Then suddenly she is all sweetness and light, she does have a soft spot for the Doctor though. He means a lot to her, but can't remember why at the moment.

Loving watching this all over again. The costumes, the scenery .... wonderful stuff. And the actress who plays Mrs Bligh Snr has the most expressive face, she doesn't need to say a word for you to know what she's thinking / feeling. Will they repeat series 2 as well? I'm guessing the new (to BBC) series starts in the new year.

Is it still being made in Australia? I read somewhere it had been cancelled, but not sure if another company has put it back on. There is something about Australian soaps that make them brilliant, some even better than ours.
The characters in this are so deep most have a back story to them that we have to wait to find out about them. Sheer bliss to watch,

I just cant get enough of this prog at the moment!.... so much so that at the end of each episode I feel physically unhappy!....... lol...(what's going on with me eh) ?.... I think they have realised what a winner they have got on their hands here after dropping it and then getting it picked up again....... I can't wait for the next series to start but then I will be sad because I wont want it to end........... crazy eh!......

Watching a few of these repeated episodes, I've a strong suspicion that many of the original contemporary recordings heard first time round have been either removed or "covers" substituted, as was "Mona Lisa," we didn't hear the Nat King Cole recording, we got a cover.
I suspect that the owners of the copyrights either refused permission for further use or put the price up. Covers were almost exclusively used in series two.
As the original recordings used first time round were used to great effect in certain scenes. I posted a list of those I'd heard so far at the time, in chronological order of their use.
I'm not sure which episodes of the first series in which they were used as "if they ain't there now, you can't check!"

But these are they from December 2014 when the series was first shown in the UK. The first few so far, have certainly disappeared.

The original recordings they used are all on YouTube.

In order of episode, they are;

Frank Chacksfield
"Where is Your Heart,"
"Ebb Tide,"

Ray Anthony. "At Last."

Jo Stafford, "You Belong to Me."

The Mills Brothers, (“with Orchestra,“ find the YouTube video with the “skywriting plane”). "You’re Nobody ‘til Somebody Loves You."

Joni James,
"Have You Heard?"
"Why Don’t You Believe Me?"

Louis Armstrong, "A Kiss to Build a Dream on."

Woody Herman, "Sweet Sue."

The Andrews Sisters, "I Can Dream, Can’t I?"

I think that you might be getting ahead of yourself a bit there - S5 was only commissioned towards the end of November and is "tentatively scheduled to air in 2017":

https://premieredate.tv/tv-series/22...ease-date.html

If it follows the schedule for previous series, it will film early next year for Australian transmission in September 2017.

Yes, the link is for an Australian site. They'll get it probably in September next year and we might not get it until January 2018. The BBC will probably repeat series 4 in the Autumn of next year.

Seeing episode 5 from the first series again this last week made me wish we'd seen a few more flashback of Rene and Sarah from happier times. It would have made the loss all the more real if we'd actually seem more of what she'd lost, and the life she used to have.
