A Place to call Home is an extremely well written, crafted and performed Series. Thoroughly enjoying watching the Programme... Double tissue day today !! Last one of Series Two tomorrow ... ![]() I think Rene suspects he is standing in the way of Sarah's happiness Quote:
TV Week confirmed that a third season had been commissioned. On 15 October 2014, it was announced that Foxtel had finalised a deal with Channel Seven that would see a third series written by Bevan Lee, produced by Seven Productions, but aired on Foxtel. On 25 October 2014, The Daily Telegraph announced that A Place to Call Home was renewed for another two seasons and would return in late 2015, airing on Foxtel channel, SoHo. It was also announced that all the original cast & crew members would return. |

Episode one of this series was a bit of a give-way, as we meet Sarah in 2013, who must have been pushing at least a hundred or maybe more, she appeared now to be the matriarch of the family.
"Samantha" turns up who'd have to be Olivia's granddaughter? (played by the same actress). Plenty for us to conjecture over the next year before we find out more. The only contemporary record I noticed in this episode, "Sh-Boom, Sh-Boom" by the Crew-Cuts. A No.1 in the US and Australia in 1954. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q9G0-4TWwew This has got to have been one of the best "watchable" serial dramas on BBC for quite some time. |

Good last episode. It would have reached some sort of conclusion if there weren't to be any further series, but with enough loose ends to develop which could make it worth watching more episodes.
How did Regina Standish get all those immaculate fabulous fifties outfits and hats into a suitcase? She was one of my favourite characters. The close-out song was "Unchained Melody" sung by Martha Marlow (from the show's CD). In my opinion the song just about saved it, as I think she's "only got half a voice." But when there's a CD of the music of the programme to sell which is mostly covers.... A bit of a disappointing choice of version, as the production values have been excellent and the use of original recordings of the popular music available at the time enhanced the experience for me. A bit of research revealed four versions of that song on records were available in 1955, the time in which this episode was set. Les Baxter's Orchestra, I didn't like that, as it sounded a bit dated, even for 1955. Jimmy Young's (the less said the better) ..... Al Hibbler, better than the previous two, but I don't much like it. This one by Roy Hamilton, which I think is great and was apparently the most popular at the time. When I found it, there were surprisingly only 10 hits on it on YouTube, but then I saw that curiously, it was only uploaded yesterday, by someone in Spain. Well... the write-up was in Spanish! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rwvZMXK7qYE Of course the Righteous Brothers made it a hit again 1n 1965. I've since found several of Roy Hamilton's records on YouTube, (he's new to me) most are worth hearing. |

I meant to watch the series when it began but circumstances changed so I missed it.
But having read the reviews in the thread I thought I'd see what was still available on iPlayer. And boy, am I hooked. Just watched four episodes back-to-back instead of going to bed. Got to agree with everyone - brilliant TV. Roll on series 3 (and 4). |

An absolute Gem of a programme
Made, and based in Australia. A woman is perched between the harsh legacy of the Second World War and the hope of a new life in her native Australia. In the first episode, Sarah Adams learns some tragic news, which leads her to decide to return to her home. Romantic drama set during the 1950s, starring Marta Dusseldorp. Weekdays on BBC2, 3:00pm this week, 3:10pm next week Marta Dusseldorp is brilliant in the leading role. Well worth watching, on iPlayer if you miss any Episodes. Thoroughly recommended. What an excellent programme. Thoroughly enjoyed it. So glad I spotted it, watched every episode avidly. In HD too... I thought the closing was brilliant, whether or not we get to see Series Three and Four. It will be sadly missed |

For fans of Marta, I'd recommend the Aussie series 'Janet King' where she plays a Public Prosecutor who is also lesbian.
It is not quite as good as APTCH in terms of characterisation and photography but shows Marta's acting off well. |

(You can't watch the episodes) https://au.tv.yahoo.com/plus7/a-plac...home/episodes/ and all four on this page. https://au.tv.yahoo.com/plus7/a-plac...me/episodes/2/ Marta Dusseldorp has been seen before in episodes of the series BlackJack and Jack Irish. |

I'm still missing it!
I don't know if Facebook has been mentioned. There are 4 sites that I know of. A Place To Call Home A Place To Call Home UK We Saved A Place To Call home (It was to be axed after the first 2 series and 2 last episodes had to be made) The Saved a Place To Call Home Group. Lots of background stories and videos. BBC now have the rights for all 4 series. Series 3 is now being advertised on Foxtel in Australia and we will get it this later this year. |

Darn! When I saw this thread back I thought its return was imminent. If they leave it too much longer they'll need to repeat s2 to nudge our memories of the story so far.

I think its popularity surprised them, the new series may even be moved to prime time, rather than 3.00pm weekdays, where I'd expect to see a repeat of series 1 & 2.. We've really no more information now than what was posted when the thread was active. I guess we'll have to be patient. |

Season 3 still being filmed in Australia at moment.
Can't wait to see it, something to brighten our winter. ![]() Think it deserves a better time slot than weekday afternoons. Quality drama. |

I wonder if we will get series three when the Doctor Blake third series (8 episodes) finishes - which means it could be back by Thursday 10 December or, more likely, Monday 14 December. Will it be fitted in before the Christmas schedules or in the New Year?
It does remind me of Dynasty! |

A Place to Call Home – Series 3 http://www.bbc.co.uk/faqs/place_to_call_homeThe third series of the Australian drama A Place to Call Home will be broadcast on BBC TV in early 2016. It used to state the Autumn 2015, so it has been pushed back. |

I would suspect early January, it's not going to air in the short period before Christmas, especially as this BBC FAQ now states:

A 4th season has already been announced, but season 3's viewing figures on SOHO have been around 0.15 million, compared to 1.3 million when the 1st two seasons were shown.
Hopefully 0.15 million is good for SOHO though. |

It says on the BBC site that it's back on early 2016. I wish they'd say exactly when as I can't wait and am worried I'll miss the start!!
