Parental controls
Shed Girl 83

I'm hoping someone can tell me if the account holder is able to tell what someone else in house looks at even if it's on their own device? Basically I've noticed sites I used to be able to visit are suddenly blocked by BT parental controls and I don't know if it's just a coincidence of if they are able to tell what I was looking at. I'm an adult and not doing anything wrong but really hope my flat mate hasn't been alerted to certain sites as it is not something or want them to know about or feel able to discuss. They are the BT account holder and this change in controls is very recent, it says the account holder has custom controls if that helps.
Thanks in advance.

ask them if they've changed any of the parental control setting, some isp's are starting to set the defaults to restricted access by default now but generally it takes about a minute to bypass the restrictions if you're of a certain level of skills

I'd rather not bring up the subject until I'm sure they haven't deliberately done it because they know what I've been looking at. Plus it says they have customs settings. Fair enough they may have just been prompted by BT. I'm probably being paranoid but it is at all possible to tell what someone is looking up on their own iPad from the main PC?

not on BT so don't know how they do things but most ISP's by default only record where you've been to hand over to GCHQ/plod etc, the average router doesn't have the storage space to hold much data (and a reset will clear it), might be worth having a look at BT's website and seeing what they say they can provide to families in ways of content management

The BT website has this page about Parental controls.

http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/46768

It seems as though you can set blocks on sites by category rather than the actual web address. So if they have activated these controls it's possible the sites you are finding blocked fall into one of the categories. So they might not know specifically what sites you are visiting just happens that it is a site blocked by default under one of the standard categories.

Thanks, that what I suspected. I'm sure the timing is just a coincidence.

BT's Parental Controls have developed a BUG - which is being much commented on in the BT Communities Forums!

A lot of people who have NEVER used these controls have, in recent days, been getting blocked pages - and none of the access override settings will work.

It is pretty obviously a BT SNAFU!

That makes much more sense. Thank you!

Mine appears to have sorted itself after about a day and a half.

When it happened to me I was just about to phone them - and then thought I would try a reboot of the router first so it might reinitialise the ISP connection.

This cleared the issue for me.

My son just yelled downstairs saying he can't get to his dropbox folder as it is now blocked by BT. I went to disable these default nanny state parental controls but it still is blocked.

If I reset the router will it recognize my preferences?
