If I want to watch fake romances I will watch Big Brother. Stop it now.

The "CIA" twist is straight out of the BB playbook too.

Now let's see whether airtime-desperate Kendra gets tonight's trial too ...

If it WAS Big Brother they would have had the cameras on poor Craig when they told him his brother had died suddenly.

Thankfully they dealt with the matter sensitively and didn't ca£h in on his shock and upset.

The showmance bits didn't really bother me too much as they tended to be kept low key, let's hope it continues that way.

Big Brother has had a handful of housemates have bereavements over the years and not once has the cameras ever been on a housemate when they've received the news, or afterwards.

Well not really. There have been a few house mates who have been told of a death and it has never been shown. Not in this country.

In Big Boss in India though, they did show Jade being told about the cancer which was horrific and shouldn't have been aired.

Ah, thanks both I'm happy to stand corrected (It was the Jade incident I'm remembering Salv), thanks for putting me to rights it's too emotive a subject for me to have dived in cack handed without the correct info.

How long before we have floating name tags and montages set to trending pop crap?

They also did it last year with Joey Essex and Amy Willerton.

Was thinking the same. I can't stand a 'jungle romance'/showmance. Especially not in this series were I'm currently liking all the women how it is. Really don't want this turning into a love fest or love triangle of any sort. Will ruin it for me.

Thought this year was looking great with no showmances only to have it all start now. Gr

They have to do it because reality TV shows are mostly watched by women and women like that sort of thing.

At least that's what TV people believe.

Agree^^^ I have just said on another thread , regardless of most of the public opinion showmances are shite, the producers think different and push them in every programme, shame really as that "pushes" me to the off button...

Am I the only one that watches this show We've had secret missions for years now and as for showmances, what about Tara and Darren Day on Series 1 not to mention Katie Price and Peter Andre

It's always had the potential to be a crappy reality show. It is not a new thing.

Are you referring to when Jade was told she had cancer? That was on the Indian BB that she went on after her disastrous appearance on British BB. I very much doubt that such a thing would have been announced live on British BB. They've had a number of celebrities (and non-celebrities) leave due to illness and keep the causes private.

Glad you mentioned the BIB as over the years of watching these types of shows I know plenty of girls and women that can't stand lots of the romances and other story lines on certain shows and are as cynical as anyone about whether the parties involved are being genuine and if the show itself is being desperate in trying to orchestrate a showmance or other suspect scenario (via editing). I also know as many guys that watch reality TV as girls, they gossip about it (gay and straight men), and also vote too, so TV people need to stop pretending only females are their main target audience, as from looking at my friends and family and coming across outside opinion it's a pretty equal share, and the women can be as like minded as men with certain viewpoints (as likewise with men sometimes being more similar to females than is sometimes universally presumed). The people I tend to find that care the least about these types of shows and think they're catered for least as an audience category are gay girls (I know). They fit the 'I don't care for voting for these people, these representations and these storyline's' attitude more than the straight males I know and come across.

I remember the first US series of BB, 9/11 happened while they were in the house, and one of them had a member of her family working there, they showed that in the DR room

Remember Peter Andre and Jordan's screen romance, which was non-stop and kind of sweet. Very BB of course, and some romances are ok if you like the people involved, but different if you don't.

Showmances have always been part of the show, but it's the most boring part of the show for me. I really don't care about them. I might be remembering this wrong, but at least with Katy and Peter it seemed a bit more of a gradual thing (even if it was cynically played out at the time for more air time), but Jake is all over the girls on his first day, so obvious and boring!

Mark Bannerman and Cerys Matthews. Did wonders for both their careers. Never off the telly since.

That one felt real though, it was interesting, to see it develop imo

I get a feeling Jake has been asked to flirt and trying a showmance by the producers,, he started with it way to quick to be natural, its all BS for me

I kind of agree with you however I think Katie Price always has her eye on how much things are worth so I'm not convinced it was totally innocent. I keep banging on about the Tara / Darren Day showmance in series one which I think was genuine from Tara's point of view but total showmance from Daren Day's point of view.

I just don't see it as new though I appreciate Jake does seem to be actively going for the showmance rather than naturally allowing for romance. It's a pity as well because all of the women seem to adore him so I'm sure something could have happened naturally.
