They weren't overrated. They were not the best singers but could carry a note and entertained. That was their appeal.

Thank goodness we don't have to listen to anymore OTY cliches. Everthing is always "soh much faaaahn" for them and they are always having "the best time evah".

Their VT summed it up - they were basically a children's act. Very cheesy and cringeworthy.

Their vocals weren't great either. I will never understand why they let the girls sing (particularly the blonde who is simply awful). Considering they repeated a song and managed to do it worse than before, I'm not surprised they went.

They were very dated and way too Eurovision for my taste. They also made the mistake of featuring the girls (especially the reedy-voiced fair-haired one) too much when the boys (or at least the brown-haired one) were better singers.

To be fair I was utterly shocked by their popularity on this forum. A lot of contrarians on here. They are a poor man's S club. Why would that appeal to people? I don't get it

They'd have a good shot at doing really well in the market they've always been aimed at: kids.

Not a big enough Fanbase this proves.

Overhyped.

Vocally, they were horrendeous tonight. The arrangement of the song and the silly string didn't help either...

Personally thought Stereo Kicks, Stevi and Ben Haenow all deserved to go before Only the Young, but each to their own I suppose. Only the Young performed well, the were not the best singers, but could hold a tune (unlike Stevi), they gelled as a band (unlike Stereo Kicks), all the members were unique (you could identify them, unlike Stereo Kicks) and they were fun in a good way. They may not have been to everyones taste, but at least they didn't give me earache. In contrast Ben was dreadful tonight. I don't mind a gravelly rock voice, but I find his voice really unpleasant to listen to.

I think that Stevi probably gained a lot of the "fun" votes, which is a shame as I have never found him particularly fun or amusing. Past contestants, like Wagner, were hilarious, but Stevi just sings out of tune and waves his legs around. The only thing slightly amusing is when he wears a silly costume.

They weren't always aimed at kids. During the auditions and early live shows they generally sang older style music, played guitars and were not aimed at kids. They seemed to start to be marketed towards kids after they ended up in the bottom 2 and performed Monster Mash the next week.

Indeed. I'm glad that they've gone over acts like SK and Stevi who aren't cheesy in the slightest and have impeccable singing standards.

Wait... what?

Stereo Kicks were much better than them vocally tonight. They may not be as popular on this forum as OTY, but it's a fact nonetheless.

I do agree with you. I certainly don't want to sound like one of those annoying partisan fans who complains at any given opportunity.

Unfortunately, SK have been stitched up by the show in a way that makes them their own worst enemy. When you've got 3 minutes to perform and are criticised weekly for having no individuality within the group, you can't spend half of that performance only having 2 or 3 members actually singing whilst the rest stand around like lemons. Sure, those who sang were certainly good, but what we didn't see were the 7 other band members waiting for the latter half of the song when everybody harmonised together.

SK just don't work for me, and is symptomatic of why a performance that doesn't fall apart is seen as fantastic for them. At this stage in the competition, you shouldn't be being told for the first time that you're starting to work as a group.

Both OTY and SK have been stitched up this year, and I think the groups category will be finished next Sunday because of it. The producer's pursuit to get something different led to SK's eight-piece creation, and yet they're the ones who've been crucified to hell and back for it, like it was them who created it.

Surely Fleur is the only act being over rated & over hyped this year.
