Wasn't Kirkwood in charge of EastEnders during the baby swap storyline when Ronnie took Kat's baby after her own child died from cot death? I know it's not exactly the same as Carmel couldn't have children at all but there was a lot of criticism at the time because it sensationalised something as sensitive as cot death. It just goes to show you that the man cannot be trusted with such issues.

I don't think the idea of kids of Tom and Peri's age having children is unrealistic in itself. There should, however, be realistic consequences to such a storyline and since Kirkwood has shown repeatedly this year that he is not prepared to make such consequences a part of pregnancy storylines, why should this one be any different? Not to mention that Tom/Peri is written as this cutesy, saccharine relationship in an effort to appeal to viewers; which runs the risk of romanticising the pregnancy (especially with the line about Tom seeing the baby as his chance at a "normal" life and family) and could have the opposite effect from what it's supposed to

I think he would have tried that on HO because it has so fewer viewers and those on twitter would not care about it. That is where he made his mistake and caused such criticism. We are now going to have Dodger breaking into a court room waving his mobile phone around in the Maxine case just as we had the swapping of statements before. Reality has gone out of this show big time which is why I don't think they should even attempt anything serious or issue led because of the silliness surrounding it.

When i first read this I was worried it might ruin Tom's character, i thought people would blame him but i have to laugh that most of the comments on facebook are blaming Peri.

tbh i can see her doing it to get back at Leela though.
