Doomed to failure

Not a single act is going to amount to anything.

Watched the show tonight then Emeli Sande comes on and there is total quality, just like John Legend on a results show a couple of weeks ago. I look at these two artists, look at the XF contestants and there is the reality check.

Garbage dressed up as entertainment, I have watched the XF since the start and Mr. Cowell, it is time to put it to bed.

couldn't agree more and that's why it really winds me up when I see people talking about x factor acts as "stars" , any success most of this lot will have is on the back of the publicity of being on a prime time Saturday night tv show for 3-4 months

they couldn't lace the boots of the likes of the acts you mention

Have wondered this year if they have dragged in Andrea from Italy when they knew they did not have quality singers from the UK.

Perhaps quality singers are giving XF a wide berth now. What is the point. They carry the show only to end up with a labelling of 'flop' and targeted with negative press post the show/or a win in order for Scowell's 'projects' to be elevated.

Great singers are being marginalised by this moronic set up.

He might be to be fair but that is not the mission of the show, also he was very poor tonight, blew it big style.

too many bad habits for musical theatre imo

musical theatre requires control and consistency of performance night after night after night

maybe with a lot of proper coaching he could do it but I think he is a million miles away from it atm

Maybe, I have two daughters who can sing, I would not encourage either to enter the XF. In fact a friend of one of my daughters auditioned and was making progress in the XF process but she withdrew. Know the family well and her brothers are serious musicians, I think anyone with hopes and aspirations needs to really think about what being on this show can do for you and that includes the negatives.

Because I've seen how hard it's been for somebody with Adam Lambert's level of talent to achieve any kind of success off the back of one these types of show, I'm inclined to agree with OP on this.

Ultimately their post-show success depends on how much money Cowell is prepared to invest in them. For most it will be the usual quickie cash-in album of covers, then Goodnight Vienna.

If Cowell is prepared to put the money in, it doesn't matter how bad they are - between them, Syco's marketing people and sound engineers will paper over the cracks. They'll be stars...right until SC finds someone more profitable.

Personally I feel the show has had its day. It,l run for a couple more seasons but it's moving closer to its end at a faster rate

I don't agree, Syco has made a right mess of some acts. to be fair the success of the likes of 1D and Olly Murs has totally shocked me but they cannot perform that with everyone (thank god).
Investment is no guarantee of success. It is a very very competitive market.

Being on the show is not such a bad thing, you get exposure.
Winning it or getting stuck with SYCO however probably is!
I'm starting to think as a contestant that if you genuinely have something to offer, it's probably best to avoid the final were you are (A) likely to be trapped in the SYCO net doing what SYCO WANTS and (B) struggle because of the "x factor" tag should you come unstuck with SYCO...

I think Leona, Shayne and Matt have done ok to get away from the XF label. They seem to have succeeded to untangle themselves from the 'tacky' branding.

Whoever advised Joe after the SYCO fiasco post his win, did very well. His USP is his vocal and he went on another show with greater credibility and won with an outstanding percentage. The good thing was a credible record label picked him up and he has got to work with some of the best in the music industry. Not the sort of act to be based on sales of tacky merchandise. He respects that he got his platform, but he is most certainly not reliant on the XF brand now and left that behind a long time ago.

It's a good way to make a fast buck. Surely unless they are top drawer it would be a good way to make inroads?
