Should live creatures be used in trials?

With all the discussion about whether live creatures should be used in trials I’ve decided to create a poll about it. The question is should live creatures be used in trials? There are three options – yes, no, not bothered.

No one who has ever squashed a fly, spider or stood on a snail has any right to get on their high horses about using critters in the trials. Anyway, it seems to me that the creatures just carry on doing their own thing and don't stress out too much.

I've never done any of those things, I just ignore them if I see them.

I've never done any of those things deliberately.

I think they can only get on doing their own thing if they haven't been trodden on or injured in the process of the trial.

I think it's also more a question of what does it make us, that we think it's entertainment to watch these creatures being used in this way?

I have voted no but only because I don't like to see them eaten alive.

I like your post, particularly the part I've bolded. We like to think of ourselves as the superior species, but if that's the case should we be exploiting animals for entertainment? Especially in situations like this where there's the potential for harm to them and when it's purely for entertainment purposes. What does it do to us to condone this behaviour?
