Atomic writing and Storyboarding
Jason_Jones1

I personally hated every moment of the new series and do not need to elaborate on that other than saying that I feel short changed after what has gone before since Eccleston.

There have got to be people out there who could right better scripts and some of them are members of this forum no doubt so perhaps there should be a thread for plot ideas that are atomic in the sense that they work.

And another thread for story boarding that contains links to whovian ideas as there is real talent out there.

I think the show could be better and it could be hijacked by the fans who could write better scripts, better plots that are put together with great story boards.

And also, the fan base should be in a position to chose the Doctor as it should not be up to one person who is head of some weird sect up there in the BBC offices in Cardiff.

I have no talent for writing as can clearly be seen nor story boarding btw.

But the fan base does have those talents.

So . . .

I thought the show had already been hijacked by fans .
no ?

it's easy to come up with ideas for scripts , but an idea is not a script , a script needs a lot of work in many more ways than just the ideas .

Well I'm sure I don't need to point out that a fair number of the writers, and both of the Executive Producers on the show since 2005 have been fans!
Their ideas may not have always worked in some people's opinion, but just saying.

The problem with getting only hardcore fans to write for any show is that there is a great danger that they will end up writing only for other hardcore fans like themselves.
A TV show cannot survive on that, it has to have mass appeal.

Well, Debbie Harry and Jimmy Destri sprang to mind when reading the thread title so I guess that excludes me from this potential talent pool.

And not being rude but didn't understand your first sentence. Do you mean there's been no decent writing since Eccleston left? If so, don't agree with that.

Amused by the idea of a "weird sect in Cardiff", mind.

I'm an amateur screenwriter and it'd be my dream job to write for Who one day, but no, handing the show over to fans on forums would be a terrible idea.

Hilarious.

Here's the thing: Doctor Who IS written by fans. It's written by the ones who have professional level writing talent and commitment.

As for 'fans' choosing the new Doctor... how on Earth do you suppose that would work? I've never heard a more ridiculous idea for a TV show, and I mean that sincerely.

"Reality TV"-style weekly public vote-off?
Dear God, no.

Genius!

We could vote for the new catchphrase too!

Vote A for: Whoopsie Daisy!
vote B for: Say Whaaaaaat?
Vote C for: What you talkin' 'bout Willis?

The new Doctor's companions could be Piers Morgan and Amanda Holden.

The Re-Generation Game?

As for the OP suggestion - NO.
Just no no no no and every which way NO. That way lies madness.
The day that the show is handed over to fans who come up with suggestions like that of the OP, is the day that the show disappears up it's own arse.

On the other hand, using professional writers and producers and designers and actors who happen to also be fans... well that's what we have now. And long may it continue.

Even the professional fans can't agree on Doctor Who

Haha that's great. Agree with Peter Capaldi the old Cybermen look should come back, far creepier I think.

At the moment its a big fat cash cow for the BBC so they're wanting it not to be changed and obscure plot references and barely remembered enemies are not really going to appeal to all but a few.

Pretty certain there's nobody on this forum who could write a better script than those we've had this series, a slightly preposterous idea (apologies if there are any professional scriptwriters here!)

The last time a story was made how the OP is suggesting they should be made, it was called "Attack Of The Cybermen".

Now, I actually quite like that story, but it doesn't have the popular appeal that the programme does these days. Head too far down that path and cancellation would beckon.

hmm, well after 30 years of medical negligence, a limb that should have been amputated on day one was left nineteen years and finally removed in 2003, developing cancer that went undiagnosed for 14 months before it was taken out after having 5 professionals look at it protectedly an not notice it was cancer.

To move into a neighbour hood who hated disabled people and harassed me for 7 years especially the C*** who lived above to be thrown in to a homeless position whilst being a pretty good software engineer and musician but find myself time and time again being the butt of a joke, sorry I have had enough of bullying, it stinks.

Fragile, no I am as hard as nails but am so sick and tired of the comments every where I go, to you your just having a laugh, for me after thirty years of this crap, I really have had enough.

...and this has what to do with your proposal not being roundly agreed with & Tom Tit's perfectly reasonable response to the suggestion that we hijack the show?

You asked a question in your OP, people replied, few agreed with your suggestion and some had some fun with it. Yet you got angry.
No-one is bullying you.
I'm genuinely sorry if you've had a tough life but that has absolutely nothing to with this thread, and there is no need for such a rant.

To be fair, you can't expect to be taken seriously when you imply that the fans should control everything. Your past is pretty irrelevant, no matter how bad it is. Sorry, but this isn't about you, it's about the show. Also, saying "wana fight" doesn't do you any favours, and can be seen as a threat. It makes you come across as aggressive. This is not a place to ask for sympathy.

Now, back on topic, If the fans were in control, we would have never gotten Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, Matt Smith or Peter Capaldi. Fans would never come to a consensus, and even if by some miracle that they did, there's no guarantee the actor would even want the role of the Doctor, like Benedict Cumberbatch for example.

Seriously, before 2005 who would even point to Christopher Eccleston and say: THAT should be the Doctor. No one!

And also, the process of writing scripts to be televised is a lot more complex than people give it credit for. There's drafts, re-drafts, re-re-drafts... It's hard.

Yep. None of us know each other here. We're just people who like the show (well, apart from Kappelmeister. Joke! He likes Series 4 and 5, so clearly has some taste. )and want a discussion, usually. If that sort of sh*t has happened to you, sorry about that. If you're just being a WUM....not impressed.

But how the heck would we know? Like us all you're a poster in a forum discussing a wonderful programme. Hate bullying and would always put my nose i if I saw that, but that isn't happening here.
