Considering a Moto G and need some advice
Air Resistance

I've currently got a Nokia Lumia 820 which is coming to the end of its contract. I've really enjoyed the phone, its done everything I need and it still is able to get the most up to date software, battery life is still good and the speed with the Windows 8 os is a joy to use.

However, I think I would like a change from something I've had for a good amount of time now. I've heard great things about the new Moto g but I wondered if people could give me their honest opinions.

I previously had a HTC desire which was a total nightmare after the first 6 months or so. The battery life just completely died and the small amount of internal storage made it impossible to have more than a few apps downloaded as you were unable to install them externally. This has really put me off buying another android phone.

Is the battery life good?
Does it have sufficient internal memory for a casual phone user?
Is the camera of a good standard?

I've just charged my phone, and the settings screen showed 18% charge, and 8 days 11 hours something since the last charge.

Okay, I've got location service turned off, and set some apps to only update through wi-fi. My usage is fairly limited, so that has an effect, but the phone's always on.

It's a very good phone, and I like Android; when my iPad gives up, I'll buy an Android tablet. I've got a fair number of apps installed, and I still have 8GB plus left (that includes about 800 music tracks).

The camera's fine in a good light, but I haven't tried it indoors.

And you haven't had the phone connected to USB or a charger for any amount of time in the last 8 days?

If that's the case it's pretty impressive! - I get about 2 days out of my Moto G (3G 2013 version) and that's with data and location services on with email syncing regularly and a few calls, apps,

The Moto G 2nd Gen is fantastic value for money. I played with one for a month.

The only reason I am not using one (I am using a S5) is that it does not support Qi charging. That is it. If it did, then I would be using it.

To be honest, it spends most of its time on standby, with about half a dozen calls, and maybe 40 or 50 emails and 20 texts a week. When I first got it, battery usage was alarming, and I started a thread about it on here. That's when I was advised to switch off location services and bluetooth.

I've had a moto g 2014 5" 8GB for a week now. I'm completely blown away by it for the price. The duel sim feature is great, battery life is ok (about 2 days with avg use) and the 8mp camera is not brilliant in low light but otherwise ok. The speaker sound is a bit lacking but apart from that, it's an amazing phone for £150. If you are after a decent budget phone, you won't get better than a moto g

I think I would echo what everyone else has said, battery life for me is superb like others I get between 2 days to a week out of it. Its a second phone so this isn't necessarily reflective of your typical usage. That said Motorola seems to have a knack for releasing handsets that have class destroying battery life. I would go as far to argue that Moto G has better battery life than some other leading phones like the S5 or iPhone 6. I would probably go for the 2014 edition the moest recent one, whilst internally there is no difference between this and last years model, it just means the handset will be supported and updated to new OS for longer. That said first generation Moto Gs can be had for some bargains nowadays.

If you do for it, you wont be disappointed.

I am waiting for the 2nd generation 4g to come out hopefully with a bigger screen. No news yet.

Same here. Looking for a site that compares the new 8MP camera to the old 5MP. Hopefully the announcement of the new 4G Moto will drop the price of the existing one. Not interested in a bigger phone though.

Wonder if they'd cancel the £10 top up for existing customers? Is it really just this weekend, can't see that on the EE page.

It's down as a "Black Friday Weekend" deal. Therefore it should go back up on Monday. If you have a topup card for Orange,Tmobile or EE, they'll usually put the £10 credit on your existing number in the EE store.

I've just bought a moto g 4g. Come from an iPhone 5.

I admit, I wouldn't have it but I bought an iPhone 6 and less then two weeks later it was bent.

I'm a massive iPhone fan. I've had iPhones since the 3G. But it's not as big of leap as I'd thought it would be.

The phone is quick, it's not struggled with anything I've tried to to do. And in really enjoying it.

It cost me £105 from tesco(I'm with tesco anyway) and for the price I'm really impressed.

Need to find a good keyboard though stock and SwiftKey are crap.

iPhones don't bend unless you bend them.
Seriously I would have to really force my 6 to bend it. Like put it in a vice or something.
Total bollocks.

Amazon had it for £129 SIM free, so it could come down in price again. Still no 4G coverage here AFAIK, so I'll wait a little longer. If I had more Tesco vouchers, I'd get it there.

I would agree, I carry mine in a front jeans pocket, I have fallen asleep with the phone under my pillow and woken up in the morning and the phone hasn't bent in the slightest.

I treat it the same as any other phone and it's been fine. I think the most common method of ending up with a bent iPhone 6 is a couple of drinks or too much curiosity (and not enough caution) and a desire to emulate the original YouTube video.

It's gotta be people having them in their back pocket and sitting down that bends them surely? or like you say, idiots seeing if theirs bends as well

Or worse, have on in your front pocket when you jump into the car seat.
Remembering that very first drop test out there, this 3 stage test is authentically comprehensive rather than just authentic.

One can 'first' confirm that the 6 Plus fails to break when dropped on its back.

I wonder, can the Moto G smash nearly every time(or should we say 50/50 considering we do not have averaged results of tests?) when dropped on its side too?
Maybe yes, maybe no?

There we go, less scientifically, it survived on its side and immediately failed a face down drop.

So both are failed designs.

Since when was this thread about iphones bending?

Mine bent. I baby my gadgets. My two year old iphone 5 is still in pristine condition. And I treated my 6 no different.

I realise I'm in a small minority and this issue is nowhere near as bad as the media would have you believe. I could have exchanged but I lost confidence in the produce. I also realise some want believe me. But please know, I couldn't care less. I know I did nothing to bend it and thats all the matters to me. You can feel free to think whatever you like.

I was being fair in saying the Moto G has fragility too. I hope you are using a jelly bean case on the G.
It likely stops 90% of drop breakages.

Regarding the OP, he seems to be trying to find a reason to upgrade on screen.
We already know the G battery life is great because of the newer low power chipset.

I'm actually finding the battery crap. Its dropped 20% in two hours with less than half an hours use.

But its new. The battery probably needs to settle in. And maybe I have stuff switched on that should be off.

Yep, mine took 3 or 4 full cycles before it began holding a good charge
