friend of mine has one of the above but has lost the remote, is there any way to operate it without the remote, he simply wants to watch freeview programs, he seems to think that this box has freeview built in........is he correct?
thanks in anticipation

It does have Freeview.

There are some controls on the front panel but why not just buy a remote control for it? Random example

http://www.amazon.co.uk/WHARFEDALE-D.../dp/B00F5U9HHM

Would make it a whole lot easier to operate.

chris,
thanks for the reply, i have suggested buying a remote and i think he will, he just wants to make sure its working properly first, have you any idea if there is any way to load up and watch the channels without a remote? i cant see any controls that allow you to enter a menu to scan for channels etc.

You need the remote - the buttons on the set only do VERY minor operations.

My mum used to have a Wharfedale DVD very similar to that one (may even have been the same model). As far as I can remember the controls on the front were mainly concerned with playing DVDs. As Nigel posted I seem to recall that the remote was the only way to fully control the beast.
