This thread got be thinking about how Neighbours is preceived.

I never really understand how Home and Away gets such better ratings in Australia compared to Neighbours and why Neighbours is the underdog compared to the UK soaps.

2015 Neighbours seems like the show to watch

Home and Away is the better soap?? I personally prefer Home and Away although I do watch Neighbours aswell. In the UK neighbours always gets better viewing figures then home and away..

Neighbours has certainly picked itself up from the Susan "it's all about the teens" Bower days.

Have you ever watched H&A, Vaslav?

Neighbours is very underrated, and I think if more ex-viewers watched, I'm sure they would see it has improved. I think Susan Bower's era drove a lot of viewers away (and the 2007 revamp didn't help, either).

I watched it about 20 years ago.

I agree that the 09-12 Subo era drove the audience away from Neighbours. It's a shame people don't give it another chance it is once again the superior Aussie soap.

I haven't watched H&A for years but I still watch Neighbours. I enjoy the storylines as they always seem to be well thought out and it has the right balance of drama and humour.

I agree. I did like some storylines during 2012 and 2011. I do remember slightly struggling with the show in 2009. Happy I stuck with it. The show is on form at the moment, and I think it is in very good place. Best it's been since 2005/2006.

Stopped watching Home and Away when the Braxtons showed up and all the storylines were suddenly just about drugs , gangs etc .

The only reason Neighbours doesn't do as well in Australia is that it has been moved from a main channel (ten ) to a multi channel ( eleven ) . Home and Away is still on a main network . (Seven )
