Hi all. Right i am trying to work out which of these three is the better phone. I suppose i am looking for opinions/advice on which one to go for. I have read up about good and bad things for all three but as this will be my first smartphone i am not sure what some of the things i have read about mean.

What do you need clarification on? That would help..

Z3 Compact is generally considered (from what I've read), to be the most powerful smaller variant and retains the top end specs of its bigger brother. The other two have made greater compromises, either in the processor, screen, or memory/RAM.

Well I have tried to compare all three and yeah I know the xperia z3 compact has kept the bigger z3 specs like the camera being 20.7mp which is good right? I am not clued up about what the megapixels mean exactly ( I have always assumed more means better camera but have read that it is not always the case). I have had Samsung phones in the past so am more likely to stay with them meaning the s5 mini is more for me however the camera is the same as in the S3 which seems a bit rubbish compared to xperia z3 and htc one mini 2 cameras. I have not found much negativity for the s5 mini compared to the others. HTC one mini 2 you cannot remove the battery which is a big negative for me and I have read reviews about the xperia z3 compact having overheating issues. The negatives about the s5 mini are the finger scanner ( I am not bothered about that anyway), the plastic casing (again not too bothered) and the unneeded heart monitor (I don't mind that) so the s5 mini does stand out there. I just still need another push for a definite. I do find the xperia z3 compact intriguing and sony is a brilliant company. I don't know much about HTC but the HTC one M8 did get excellent reviews and so the mini version does look good to me.

I am still unsure which one would suit me though. This is my first smartphone so I have not much clue about them.

On paper and specs alone , the Z3 is probably the best of the bunch. It's a true pocket powerhouse. But in everyday use, the S5 Mini will be fine. I've an S4 Mini and its more than sufficient for my purposes. An 8mp camera is fine for Facebook / Instagram pics.

The fingerprint scanner / heart rate monitor may be redundant (but useful to others), but still nice to have features. The HTC is too large for a Mini (surplus bezels), but friend of mine has it and loves it.

The Sony is the best of that lot, but more expensive no doubt. Best thing is to go to a store and have a play with each; there are positives / negatives to all these devices.

Actually it's probably the cheapest as its available for £349 SIM free.

Just wondering on what you are going to be using it for, as if it's the basic things like Internet, EMAIL, Facebook etc maybe the Motorola Moto G 4G might be an option?

Its a hell of a phone for under £130.

I got mine on day of release, £25 a month and can handle anything

I am still unsure and i did have a look at all three phones in a store recently but none stood out to me more. I am planning on getting a sim free deal and was hoping to have the deal for at least the one year it says and maybe two so i don't want to get one and then regret it. Hmmm this black friday thing in the UK will it include sim free smartphones?

Blimy - they sound a lot for a Mini version of the phone considering I've seen the full LG G3 phone for £299 (was on UK Hot Deals site).

Oh wow just seen the HTC one mini 2 for £189 on Vodafone for PAYG as part of black Friday deal. I am not sure if it is locked to Vodafone but if it is then I am sure unlocking will not cost much so this could be a great deal. S5 mini I have found for £315 but the xepria z3 I have found the cheapest to be at least £360 on amazon but it is out of stock right now. So I am now torn between S5 mini and HTC one mini 2. I did a list for all three phones listing certain things like the camera's, batteries etc and the one that got the most ticks was the S5 mini with only the camera being inferior to the other two phones. However this deal from Vodafone is the cheapest I have seen a smartphone of this standard. Although both the HTC and Xperia phones have known overheating issues. I just need one more push from these phones and I think my decision will be made.
